Resolution:
Moved by Commissioner Rogers: Seconded by Commissioner Wright
RESOLVED, That the minutes of the July 25, 2018 Community Police Board meeting
be approved as published.
Carried Unanimously
Report from the Common Council: Alderperson Kerslick informed the Commissioners
that at the August City Administration meeting Police Chief Tyler made a presentation of
the Officer Next Door Program in West Village. Crisis Action Team was discussed,
staffing is below what it would need to be to implement in West Village. The Officer Next
Door Program was an experiment, the consensus by the IPD and Council was that it
wasn’t effective.
Budget season was discussed, including Ithaca Police Department requesting $242,000
for police vehicles. If approved, this amount will be maintained for the next 4 years.
Old Business: Public Information Specialist Faraday provided a copy of the existing
internal procedures that are followed upon the receipt of a complaint to the Community
Police Board. Chair Kane made clarifications to the procedures and the document will
be updated by PIS Faraday.
New Business: At the end of this year Marion will be retiring from the Community
Police Board. The Board discussed this and other vacancies, recruitment and the role of
the board moving forward. The Commissioners agreed that a discussion regarding
changing quorum or how often the board meets is needed.
Alderperson Kerslick will look in to the rules surrounding making any changes to the
Community Police Board charter, quorum or meeting times. This discussion will be
placed under Old Business on the September Agenda.
