Report from the Police Department:
Deputy Chief Monticello reported that the Ithaca Police Department has been busy
interviewing to fill vacancies. IPD hired 3 new officers: Dakotah Babcock, Jacob
vonHahmann, and Zachary Dorn. They will be sworn in on July 5, 2018 and will start
Police academy in Syracuse on July 9, 2018. They are presently interviewing for
another Deputy Chief and should have more information in the next couple of weeks.
Jo Flomerfelt is retiring at the end of the month; her replacement will be announced
soon. Financial clerk Dianne McFall retired, and her position is in interviews.
Deputy Chief Monticello will ask Jo Flomerfelt to send along Seniority list for IPD after
the new hires are made.
Chair Kane inquired about the decrease in complaints- is this because people with
complaints are going directly to the Police Department?
Deputy Chief Monticello stated that the IPD receives a consistent amount of complaints
and reviews- about 40 per year. He described the process the Police Department goes
through when they receive a direct complaint, the Commissioners discussed ways to
increase the presence of the Community Police Board and let citizens who have a
complaint know that the CPB is an option. He also stated that a decrease in complaints
and issues concerning the Community Police Board was hopefully due to the
preventative measures that IPD has taken regarding staff training.
Report from Staff:
Melody Faraday reported that PSIC Chair Davi Mozie is unable to attend this meeting,
she will try to make it next month.
New Business:
Two new compliments were received for IPD. The compliments were internal and did
