HomeMy WebLinkAboutMN-YB-2015-01-13 January 13, 2015 Meeting Minutes Attendance: Eric Nichols, Talyse LaDora Hampton, William Murphy, Dave Warden, Caitlin Moss and George McGonigal Absent: Kenneth McLaurin and Lizzy Rayle Staff: Liz Vance, Jody Hallett-Harris and Michael Bianconi --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Meeting called to order at 6:10 p.m. by Eric Nichols Review and approval of Minutes: Michael Bianconi from the Outing Program joined the meeting and is interested in becoming a member. Introductions were made of the board members to him. The Minutes from October 14, 2014 and November 10, 2014 were passed around for review and approval. Caitlin made the motion for approval of both minutes and Eric 2nd the motion, all were in favor. There was some discussion regarding several members that are no longer attending. Jody will email Kenneth at Southside to see if he is able to attend or could appoint someone else to come as a liaison. Shannon, Augusta and Dipayan are no longer on the board. They will be removed from the member list. William Martin was also brought up, and Jody will email him to see if he still is interested in joining the board. Announcements: Liz announced that she is has officially been named the Director of the IYB and she will be moving upstairs to Allen’s old office and Allen will be in Liz’s office downstairs. Allen will be staying on part time and helping with budget and building issues. The position for Deputy Director has been posted and applications are due by 1/21 and then HR will screen the applications for qualifications and a list will be sent to Liz and she is planning on putting together a hiring committee for the hiring, she would like a board member and one person from Common Council to be on the committee. She asked who would be interested in being on the committee and Eric, Bill Talyse and George are all interested in this. Board members would like to have the job description emailed to them, Jody will email this to them. IYB staff had the opportunity to come and meet with Liz and discuss any ideas or ask questions they may have during three different lunch hour times last week. Karen Friedeborn will be retiring in August, 2015 this year. There is a benefit for Yes, Friends and CDP on 2/12/15 at Coltivare from 5-7 and a flyer was emailed with the Agenda as well as a flyer passed around at the meeting. Liz announced that the 2015 Mentoring Challenge will be kicking off with the goal of 100 volunteers and raising $10,000. They are in the process of making banners to hang up in the area and will be also advertising. Staff and Program Updates: We will be cohosting the Business After Hours here at the IYB on 3/11/15 from 5-7 and we will need help with set up and clean up as well as door prizes being donated and still looking for music. Taylse and Eric were nominated by Caitlin as Co-Chairs and Bill 2nd the motion and all were in favor. The 2015 meeting dates were reviewed and these were also approved unanimously. The 2015 monitoring/shadowing was discussed and we will do as we did last year and have the supervisor/coordinator come to the meeting and present and then do the monitoring/shadowing before the next month’s meeting and give a report at the next meeting. The board would like me to email the departments and see what the best times are for them for monitoring/shadowing their programs. George McGonigal gave an update from Common Council that the 2015 budget has passed and the Town of Ithaca will be cutting ½ of the money in 2015 but will be giving back approximately $28,000 back in funding. Liz and Allen have met with the Town of Ithaca and there is another meeting on 1/22 for more discussion. There were some discussion regarding the boat house in Stewart Park and discussion regarding the large pavilion repairs. Dave Warden gave an update from the Board of Public Works and DPW is currently trying to prioritize the money and where it should go. There was a recent discussion wherein they talking about putting in a utility sink in the large pavilion. Kenneth McLaurin from Southside Community Center was not at the meeting, therefore there was no report from Southside. Talyse gave an update that the Friends of the IYB’s annual campaign is still going on and if anyone needs more information they can contact Talyse. She discussed the Benefit for the IYB being held at Coltivare and the recent quarterly allocation given to the IYB.
