The Minutes from February 9, 2016, Jason made the motion and Eric 2nd the motion and all were in favor.
Minutes were approved.
It was announced to the Board that Bill Murphy has put in his official resignation from the Board after
many, many years of service. The Board would like to recognize Bill’s service in some way and
suggestions were given to have an award with his name on it for recognition of volunteers, Bill Murphy
Service Award. Liz will talk with staff members to see if there are any suggestions for this and it will be
discussed at next month’s meeting. There was also a suggestion of a donation being made in his name.
Liz had several staff updates/announcements:
The YES program interviews are going on for the 2nd position of program leader. Nancy Kane was hired
for the Recreation Coordinator position and at this time she will start part-time through May as a
Recreation Attendant. She brings many skills with her and will be an asset to the recreation department.
April 14th is the CDP, YES and Friends fundraiser at Coltivare which will be wine tasting and silent
auction, Bev Stokes will be the musician for the event. Tickets will be available soon and presale tickets
will be $25 each and the goal is to pre-sell at least 100 tickets. The Board would like to have the
information emailed to them when it becomes available.
Spring/Summer registration is continuing and the Cass Park bid on project will be awarded next week.
BBBS Bowl for Kids Sake fundraiser was this past weekend and the Board had a team there, George, Eric
and Jason were the team. Last year the event raised $9,000 and this year they had raised, so far
approximately $11,000 and the Give Gab will be open through the end of the month for donations to
continue.
The Shadowing/monitoring was looked over one last time and the finalize version will be approved at
next month’s meeting. Talyse did a great job on this and everyone is very happy with the end result.
There were some suggestions for changes to be made prior to the final version, the number of volunteers
utilized each year should be a break out number or a write in number, as each program requires different
amounts of volunteers. Eric will send out this one more time before next month’s meeting and we will
vote on it next month.
There was some discussion regarding the need for more board members and Caitlin advised that the Jump
on Board event is coming up and last year we were able to get quite a few interested members at this
event.
Caitlin stated she went to the PSMP after school program and there were approximately 15 kids and
Eloise stated that it was a “slow day”. Eloise currently has two staff members which are both part time.
They need more space for their after school program as they currently use 2 rooms and are sharing them.
Caitlin gave a description of the PSMP program. The kids start in 6th grade and they are monitored
through first year of college. PSMP does not have a waiting list and goes year by year. They have 5 kids
graduating this year and have 32 core students currently. The PSMP funding comes from grants they
apply for and fundraisers. They really need mentors for the kids and would love to have one-to-one
mentors for the kids. The students are nominated by the recommendation from guidance counselors,
teachers or sometimes by parents.
Dave Warden was not at the meeting so was unable to give an update from the Board of DPW.
George McGonigal gave an update from Common Council regarding the canoe and kayak rentals that the
IYB will be doing and they will start with 2 here and 2 at Cass Park and pricing will be based on other
state parks and there is also talk about boat storage and rental too.
Talyse was unable to attend, but did email information for Friends of the IYB. They are currently
working on the online auction which will be June 3rd and they are also looking at having a signature event
like a golf tournament. They are looking for help to get items for the online auction. Eric will ask that
someone from the Friends group come to next month’s meeting to give more information regarding the
auction and the signature golf tournament.
