Staff and Program Updates:
The vacant Administrative Assistant has been filled, LaToya Benton has started and is a former YES teen.
The Winter/Spring I-playbook is out and winter registration started on 12/7 and Spring registration starts
on 1/3.
YES and Cass both have some great things happening, please check out their social media (Facebook and
web page). YES is doing a program called YES Asks, wherein the YES staff goes to the Ithaca High
School cafeteria every couple weeks and go to each table to ask a question – the recent question was:
Does school prepare you for the real world? Most of the kids said no. Emily did some research and a
blog to show how it prepares you.
Jim and Liz presented the Cass Park projects and campaign at the Rotary Meeting and Liz plans on
joining them. This is the time of year that we work on highlights/goals to the Mayor.
The IYB Volunteer Brochure has been revamped by Jody and Suki gave a brief explanation of what that
is.
The Pro’s groups will be returning January 5,6 & 7 open to the public, several events – At GIAC and
Cass Park rink and maybe a skate with the Mayor, Liz will keep us posted.
Youth development has been doing reports and for the first 3 quarters of 2016, youth development served
506 youth, of which, 62% were youth of color, 71.5% of the participants were eligible for free/reduced
lunch at school and 75% of participates are between the ages of 10-17.
Voting on Chair/Co-Chair – There were some questions about voting – this was tabled for next month and
members wanted to look at the Bylaws to see what they say how voting should be done. Since Eric was
not able to make this meeting. Talyse made a motion for the votes to be tabled till January meeting, Jesse
seconded this motion.
2017 Meeting Dates – Jesse made motion – Jason 2nd motion
Jason brought up about having access to the documents online with the new process. Talyse will look
into having an option of viewing it or to establish someone being able to edit, etc. On 12/5/16, Jason
shadowed the YES Program – he participated in a skill building exercise, which was baking cookies to be
delivered to a couple of different organizations in Ithaca. This particular exercise really showed team
work/follow through for the teens involved. Jason continued to give members a detailed report of
shadowing the YES program and his meeting with Beverly. The report was done electronically and notes
will be on file.
There was a discussion regarding the committee system that is currently being reviewed for possible
restructuring.
Cass Rink is currently managing with the renovations and is being used heavily.
Talyse made a suggestion that a welcome card be sent from the Board to new employees, to make them
feel welcome. Suki advised that there were four new employees for 2016. Talyse would like have a
discussion at next month’s meeting regarding how Board Members are advised of new hires, etc., and
would like this put on January’s Agenda.
Dave Warden was not in attendance – therefore no report from the Board of Public
George McGonigal was not in attendance – therefore not update from Common Council
