Meeting called to order at 6:05 p.m. by Jason Hecht
The Minutes from March 8, 2016, April 12, 2016 and June 14, 2016, were tabled for next month’s
meeting, as there wasn’t a quorum.
Jesse Tedora was introduced again to the board members and an update on the status of his June Board
Application was given. He was advised that the Mayor is not making appointments to any
boards/committees because he is reviewing all the current committees in the City to restructure these.
Appointments can be done if there an immediate need and because Jesse has turned down other board
invitations and that his job requires his appointment to a board. Both George and Liz will speak with the
Mayor to make sure this appointment does go through as soon as possible.
There were several announcements from Liz:
The gym floor was redone at the end of August and looks really great; board members should go take a
look at it after the meeting. The company that did the gym floor painted new bright orange lines on the
gym floor. There is now a 4-Square lines and the IYB staff had a tournament on Monday during the
lunch hour to break in the new floor!
Summer camp and summer programming has wrapped up and it was a busy and successful summer. The
camps were all full and had waitlists. The CDP and PSMP took trips over the summer also.
Mark Vrede the Administrative Assistant has left his position after 15 years to pursue other things and
currently this position is being advertised, and applications to fill this position have come in and they will
be reviewed soon and interviews will be scheduled.
My Brothers Keepers a NY initiative has 2 grants and CDP and PSMP are partnering with the Ithaca HS
for this.
Ithaca Bike Rental is still open and had a very successful summer of rentals. They were able to employ 4
YES workers for the season to help with rentals. The Bike Festival is this Saturday 9/17.
The gifts for Bill Murphy were mailed out and George was able to give an acknowledgment at the last
Common Council Meeting of Bill’s years of service to the City.
The shadowing/monitoring documents will be emailed to board members and a final vote on them will be
at next month’s meeting. Talyse will email these to Jody in the next few days so that these can be
forwarded on to the board members for a final review. The monitoring /shadowing has not been done for
2016 and BBBS and PSMP will need to have monitoring before the end of the year. Jason has
volunteered to monitor BBBS and Jody will find out when Joe needs to have the Board’s monitoring done
for the Nat’l BBBS requirements.
Liz advised that the new forms for the pavilions will be presented to the BPW for final approval of the
new rules as well as a slight increase in the fees for 2017. The new rental reservation forms were put
together with new language from the City Attorney, City Forrester as well as input from the IYB
Advisory Board to help preserve all of the work and money that has been put into the renovations of the
pavilions. Language has been added for alcohol use, what decorating can be done, as well as cleaning
and fees that may be imposed to groups/individuals who do not clean the pavilion after their reservation.
Dave Warden gave an update from the Board of Public Works - Recently there has been some problems
with the water because of the recent drought and now with some rain, this has been finally been remedied
and no more brown water. The Board of PW also approved an adjustment to City resident’s water bills,
on a case by case situation because of the flushing of the water and there is no blanket way of applying an
adjust to all customers at once.
The Cass Park rink renovations look great. New roof and new lights are great! They painted the beams
and are putting up netting for the VERY persistent birds that are still continuing to try to nest on the new
fixtures.
Friends of the IYB: Mary Grainger is continuing the work on the campaign for enclosing the rink at Cass
Park and is there is an event in November. Friends gave a quarterly allocation of $20,000 which was
split between 6 IYB programs, which was a HUGE help at this time of year when program supply lines
are pretty much used up.
George McGonigal gave an update from Common Council. Budget season is underway and the Mayor
should be releasing the budget on October 3rd. He talked about Maguire purchasing the land by the
community gardens.
