Friends of the Ithaca Youth Bureau(FIYB)Chairperson,Jeff Love, was unable to attend due to a family emergency. The presentation was postponed until the March meeting.Jen handed out basic information about the FIYB and Shannon suggested that everyone take some time in the next month to look over the information and come to next month's meeting with questions for the FIYB. Allen did a quick update regarding the budget/advocacy. The Governor's budget again is calling for cuts. There will be 33%cuts to OCFS(Office of Children and Family Services)statewide. The IYB is not planning a community- wide advocacy campaign because Allen is worried about"crisis burnout"if the IYB calls on constituents every year. Instead, staff is doing targeted advocacy. The programs that are impacted the most(indirect: Youth Council,Paul Shreurs Memorial Program and administration;direct: Youth Employment Service,Big Brother Big Sister and Recreation Support Services)will be sending letters.Board members can write letters as well.Chris agreed to tweak the sample letter provided by the IYB to send from the entire board.Allen suggested creating a second draft to send to state legislators since the Governor seems set with his budget. Monitoring for College Discovery Program is scheduled for March. Tompkins Connect is sponsoring this year's Jump on Board event. The Advisory Board and the Friends of the IYB will both be there recruiting new board members.Jen will set up the booth and Chris will meet her there to staff the table. Jen passed out the Youth Development logic models. Shannon encouraged board members to look over the document and digest the information. There will be time for questions at future meetings. Allen and Eddie both said that this is a good start as the city is moving toward intentional and measurable objectives.Eddie also encouraged the board to be part of the process of looking at area-wide youth services for duplication. Lauren announced that the Cornell Class of 2012 is looking forward to working with us on fundraising.
