Home My WebLink AboutMN-CIV-1997-09-08 CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION REGULAR MEETING September 8, 1997 Commissioners Present:, Commissioner Perko, Commissioner Desch Commissioners Excused: Commissioner Bantuvanis Staff Present: Valerie Saul, Bonnie Fiorille (Ithaca City School District) Commissioner Desch agreed to chair the meeting in Commissioner Bantuvanis' absence. Commissioner Desch called the meeting to order at 11:00 a.m. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Commissioner Perko made a motion to approve the minutes of the July 28, 1997 meeting. Seconded by Commissioner Desch. Motion carried 2-0. NEW BUSINESS Reinstatement Request - Ithaca City School District The Commission reviewed a request to reinstate Kolleen Ross to the position of Senior Typist at the Ithaca City School District. The request complies with Rule XVIII, Section 1 of the Civil Service Rules. Commissioner Perko made a motion to approve the reinstatement of Kolleen Ross to the position of Senior Typist at the Ithaca City School District. Seconded by Commissioner Desch. Motion carried 2-0. New Position Duties Statement and Adoption of Job Description: City Prosecutor's Office - Deputy City Prosecutor The Commission reviewed and discussed a New Position Duties Statement submitted by the City Prosecutor and a proposed job description for Deputy City Prosecutor. Commissioner Perko made a motion to classify the position as Deputy City Prosecutor and adopt the job description as proposed. Seconded by Commissioner Desch. Motion carried 2-0. New Position Duties Statement and Adoption of Job Description: DPW(Water& Sewer) - Principal Account Clerk The Commission reviewed and discussed a New Position Duties Statement submitted by the Water and Sewer Division. Commissioner Perko made a motion to classify the position as Principal Account Clerk. The position is currently authorized as a half-time position. Seconded by Commissioner Desch. Motion carried 2-0. 1 i Civil Service Commission Meeting -September 8, 1997 Page 2 Reclassification Request - Ithaca City School District The Commission discussed a request from Typist Margo Brill to have her position reclassified to Senior Typist. Personnel Administrator Valerie Saul reported on her audit of Ms. Brill's position. Ms. Saul recommended that the commission approve Ms. Brill's reclassification request. Commissioner Perko made a motion to reclassify Ms. Brill's position to Senior Typist. Seconded by Commissioner Desch. Motion carried 2-0. Extension of Continuous Recruitment Eligibility Ms. Saul reported that Ms. Brill's eligibility on the Senior Typist continuous recruitment list is scheduled to expire on 9/23/97. The Board of Education may not be able to approve Ms. Brill's reclassification by that date. Commissioner Perko made a motion to extend Ms. Brill's eligibility on the Senior Typist continuous recruitment list until 11/30/97 to allow for her reclassification and appointment to be processed. Seconded by Commissioner Desch. Motion carried 2-0. New Position Duties Statement and Adoption of Job Description: Ithaca Housing Authority - Accountant The Commission reviewed and discussed a New Position Duties Statement from the Ithaca Housing Authority and a proposed job description for Accountant. Commissioner Desch made a motion to classify the position as Accountant and adopt the job description as proposed. Seconded by Commissioner Perko. Motion carried 2-0 CONTINUING BUSINESS Commissioner Desch made a motion to go into Executive Session to discuss civil service examination matters. Seconded by Commissioner Perko. Motion carried 2-0. During Executive Session, the Commission took the following actions: APPROVAL OF ROSTERS OF CANDIDATES FOR EXAMINATION Commissioner Perko made a motion to approve the Rosters of Candidates for Examination listed below. Seconded by Commissioner Desch. Motion carried 2-0. Senior Level Clerical Exam -#55-000 Systems Administrator-#63-162 ESTABLISHMENT OF ELIGIBLE LIST Commissioner Perko made a motion to establish Police Sergeant Eligible List #73-151 for a two (2) year period. Seconded by Commissioner Desch. Motion carried 2-0.
