Home My WebLink AboutMN-CIV-1995-03-27 REGULAR MEETING CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION March 27, 1995 Present: Commissioner Bantuvanis, Commissioner Perko, Valerie Saul (Personnel Administrator) , Bonnie Fiorille (Senior Stenographer) Absent: Commissioner Middleton Commissioner Bantuvanis called the meeting to order at 11:02 a.m. APPROVAL OF SIDES Commissioner Perko made a motion to approve the minutes of the February 14, 1995 meeting. Seconded by Commissioner Bantuvanis. Motion carried 2-0. NEN BUSINESS NEN POSITION DUTIES STATEMENT: POLICE DER-MOMENT - POLICE SERGEANT The Commission reviewed a New Position Duties Statement to classify a Police Sergeant position in the Traffic Division of the Ithaca Police Department. Commissioner Perko made a motion to classify the new position of Police Sergeant. Seconded by Commissioner Bantuvanis. Motion carried 2-0. REQUEST TO WAIVE RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT FOR SUPERVISOR OF STREETS EXAMINATION The Commission reviewed Assistant Superintendent of Public Works Richard Ferrel's request to waive the residency requirement for the open-competitive examination Supervisor of Streets. He feels that some experienced people may be disqualified due to the requirement of applicants being Tompkins County residents. The Department of Public Works employs more than one individual which is qualified to take this examination but resides in an adjacent county. This waiver would allow an adequate pool of applicants to participate in the examination. After much discussion, Commissioner Perko made a motion to waive the residency requirement to allow candidates who reside in Tompkins County or one of the six contiguous counties to participate in the Supervisor of Streets examination. Seconded by Commissioner Bantuvanis. Motion carried 2-0. NEN POSITION DUTIES STATEMENT: DPW (N&S) - ACCOUNT CLERK TYPIST The Commission reviewed a New Position Duties Statement submitted by Assistant Superintendent of Public Works (W&S) Larry Fabbroni to classify a part-time, temporary Account Clerk-Typist position. This position would be temporary until December 31, 1995. Commissioner Bantuvanis made a motion to classify the position as Account Clerk-Typist. Seconded by Commissioner Perko. Motion carried 2-0. CONTINUING BUSINESS Commissioner Bantuvanis made a motion to go into Executive Session to discuss civil service examination matters. Seconded by Commissioner Perko. Motion carried 2-0.
