Home My WebLink AboutMN-CIV-1993-05-10 28i REGULAR MEETING CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION May 10, 1993 Present: Commissioner Bantuvanis, Commissioner Middleton, Valerie Saul (Personnel Administrator) , Bonnie Fiorille (Personnel Associate) Excused: Commissioner Perko Commissioner Bantuvanis called the meeting to order at 11:00 a.m. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Commissioner Middleton made a motion to accept the minutes of the April 12 , 1993 meeting. Seconded by Commissioner Bantuvanis. Motion carried. AUTHORIZATION TO DIRECT PUBLIC HEARING Commissioner Middleton made a motion to direct a public hearing to amend Rule X of the Civil Service Rules to add provisions regarding examination material security. The hearing will be held at the June 15, 1993 meeting. Seconded by Commissioner Bantuvanis. Motion carried. AMENDMENT TO JOB DESCRIPTIONS FOR POLICE OFFICER AND FIREFIGHTER Personnel Administrator Saul explained to the Commission that Police Officer candidates must meet all of the requirements of Section 58 of the New York State Civil Service Law (Age, Medical and Fitness Standards) and Sections 3 and Section 30 of the New York State Public Officers Law (Criminal Record and Citizenship) , in addition to the minimum qualifications currently listed on the job description. Personnel Administrator Saul recommended that the job description be amended to include a list of these requirements. Personnel Administrator Saul also recommended that the Firefighter job description be similarly amended to include the current age, medical and physical fitness requirements. Personnel Administrator Saul further recommended that the language regarding the EMT requirement be clarified to read as follows: SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Candidates must obtain certification as a New York State Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) within two years of appointment, and maintain said certification for the duration of employment. Commissioner Middleton made a motion to amend the Police Officer and Firefighter job descriptions as indicated above. Seconded by Commissioner Bantuvanis. Motion carried. The Commission reviewed a videotape from New York State Department of Civil Service on "Information for New Comissioners and Personnel Officers" . 282 Civil Service Commission Meeting - May 10, 1993 Page 2 CONTINUING BUSINESS Commissioner Bantuvanis made a motion to go into Executive Session. Motion carried.
