Home My WebLink AboutMN-CIV-1993-01-19 - REGULAR MEETING CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION January 19, 1993 Present: Commissioner Bantuvanis, Commissioner Perko, Commissioner Middleton, Valerie Saul (Personnel Administrator) , Lisa Patz, Bill Baker, Nan Brown, Bill Troy Commissioner Bantuvanis called the meeting to order at 11:00 a.m. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Commissioner Perko made a motion to accept the minutes of the December 14, 1992 meeting. Seconded by Commissioner Middleton. Motion carried. NEW BUSINESS REQUEST FOR EXTENSION OF PROVISIONAL APPOINTMENTS - SCHOOL SECRETARY: ICSD Nan Brown, Principal of Enfield School, made a request for the extension of the provisional appointment of her School Secretary. Personnel Administrator Saul explained that the Commission had no authority under Civil Service Law to grant this request. The Commission then discussed other alternatives that are available to the Ithaca City School District, that would temporarily meet their needs until a permanent appointment can be made. NEW POSITION DUTIES STATEMENT - SENIOR POLICE DISPATCHER: POLICE DEPARTMENT Personnel Administrator Saul explained that this was a new position that has to be classified and a job specification has to be adopted. She also explained that this position has been through the budget process. The Commission reviewed and discussed the New Position Duties Statement for the Senior Dispatcher. Commissioner Perko made a motion to classify and adopt the New Position Duties Statement and Job Description for the Senior Police Dispatcher. Seconded by Commissioner Middleton. Motion carried. REVISION OF POLICE DISPATCHER JOB SPECIFICATION Personnel Administrator Saul explained to the Commission that the job specification for Police Dispatcher does not accurately reflect the equipment being used. She requested permission to revise the job specification to delete the obsolete language. Commissioner Middleton made a motion to change the current job specification as requested. Seconded by Commissioner Perko. Motion carried. NEW POSITION DUTIES STATEMENT - SENIOR TYPIST: POLICE DEPARTMENT The Commission reviewed and discussed the New Position Duties Statement. Personnel Administrator Saul explained to the Commission that the Senior Typist position would be added to the records division of the Police Department. k Civil Service Commission Meeting - January 19, 1993 Page 2 Commissioner Perko made a motion to accept and classify the position as a Senior Typist. Seconded by Commissioner Middleton. Motion carried. NEW POSITION DUTIES STATEMENT - CONFIDENTIAL SECRETARY TO THE CITY ATTORNEY: LAW OFFICE Personnel Administrator Saul explained to the Commission that this is a part- time position that must be classified by the Commission. She also explained that the Civil Service Rules must be amended to add an additional position to the exempt class. Commissioner Middleton made a motion to classify the part-time Confidential Secretary position. Seconded by Commissioner Perko. Motion carried. AUTHORIZATION T_Q DIRECT PUBLIC HEARING Commissioner Middleton made a motion to direct a public hearing to amend the Civil Service Rules by adding a second Confidential Secretary to the City Attorney position to the exempt class. The hearing will be held at the March 8, 1993 meeting. Seconded by Commissioner Perko. Motion carried. CONTINUING BUSINESS Commissioner Bantuvanis made a motion to go into Executive Session. Motion carried.
