FEBRUARY 10,1998
MINUTES
PRESENT: Commissioners Robert Romanowski,Lyman Baker,Alvin Nelson, Paul
Alexander and Cynthia Yahn
I. Chairperson Romanowski called the meeting to order at 1803 hrs.
II. Corn. Nelson made a motion to approve the minutes of the January 13, 1998
meeting as written. Seconded by Corn. Alexander. Carried unanimously.
III. Additions/Deletions to the Agenda:
- Corn. Alexander asked for a brief Executive Session to discuss the Board of Fire
Commissioner's annual award.
IV. Persons Wishing to Speak to Board of Fire Commissioners: None
V.. Correspondence: None
VI. Membership Changes:
- Corn. Alexander made a motion to approve the following:
Michael Baskin-Co. #5
Hannah McKeown-Unaffiliated Bunker
Brian Fannin-Unaffiliated Bunker
Seconded by Corn. Baker. Carried unanimously.
- Chairperson Romanowski made a motion to accept the resignation of Pete Tyler
from Co. #1 due to change in residency. Seconded by Corn. Alexander. Carried
unanimously.
VII. Miscellaneous Reports:
-Chair Romanowski made a motion to approve the audit dated January 10, 1998
in the amount of$3,683.16. Seconded by Corn. Alexander. Carried unanimously.
-Town of Ithaca-see the Minute Book for written report from Chair
Romanowski.
- Tompkins County Fire Advisory Board - (Deputy Chief Dorman did not attend)
Lyle Neigh gave a brief report of the meeting.
-Members of the Board of Fire Commissioners received a copy of the comments

from Chair Romanowski that he presented to the B&A Meeting on January 28,
1998 regarding the state of the finances of the Ithaca Fire Department (see report
in Minute Book).
VIII. Department Report (Chief, Deputy Chief,Volunteer Coordinator and Training):
- (Chief Wilbur is currently out of town attending a program at the National Fire
Academy): Deputy Chief Dorman summarized each report (see written copies in
the Minute Book).
-Vol. Coord. Marcia Lynch reviewed her report: She reported this is prime
bunker recruitment season- posters at all local colleges; she attended two
programs at Cornell this past month for recruitment purposes; and she reported
that Cornell University and Ithaca College are both interested in having a link to
the IFD web page in order to further publicize the program.
IX. Old Business:
-Station 7- Deputy Chief Dorman reported that we are currently waiting for
more information from the City Attorney's office before we can proceed to make
any decisions regarding disposition of Station 7.
-The following company reports were received:
Co.#1 - report of 1997 City monies received 2/5/98;2% report received
2/9/98;
Co. #2- report of 1998 Officers received 2/10/98;
Co. #6 - report of 1997 City monies & 2%monies received 2/9/98;
Corn. Baker made a motion to endorse a letter to all companies to request all
reports be received before the March 9, 1998 meeting. Seconded by Com. Nelson.
Carried unanimously.
- Consider nominations to Joint Operating Committee (Training Center) -see
memo from Chief Wilbur dated 06 FEB 98-no action at this time.
X. New Business:
- Corn. Alexander thanked the Fire Police for their help last Saturday during the
funeral for Enfield Firefighter Greg Kirschgessner-they all did a fine job.
Deputy Chief Dorman reported that Ithaca helped to cover Enfield's district on
Friday night during calling hours as well as on Saturday during the funeral-we
also participated in the funeral procession.

XI. At 1825 hrs. Corn. Yahn made a motion to move into Executive Session to discuss
the Fire Commissioner's Award. Seconded by Corn. Nelson. Carried
unanimously.
At 1830 hrs. the meeting resumed open session. Corn. Yahn moved that the
meeting be adjourned. Seconded by Corn. Nelson. Carried unanimously.
