RE: Brindley Street Bridge Replacement Project
Stewart Avenue Bridge Painting Project
City of Ithaca's Department of Engineering staff and engineers from Delta Engineers,
Architects, & Land Surveyors and LaBella Associates, D.P.C. will present Brindley Street
Bridge Replacement project and Stewart Avenue Bridge Painting Projects' objectives and
alternatives being considered .The presentation will be followed by questions and discussion
session.
Projects Description:
The Brindley Street Bridge Replacement Project will involve the replacement of the single
span, single lane multiple steel girder bridge carrying Brindley Street over the Cayuga Inlet,
including necessary approach work. The project objectives are to:
Replace the existing single lane structure on Brindley Street with two lane structure with
accommodation for bicyclists and pedestrians;
Restore the crossing to a condition which provide a minimum 75 year service life, using
cost effective techniques to minimize the life cycle cost of maintenance and repair; and
Address geometric deficiencies and improve safety at the intersections of Brindley
Street/West State Street and West Seneca Street.
Stewart Avenue Bridge (over Cascadilla Creek) Painting Project will restore the paint system to
protect the structural steel on the bridge for an additional 15 years against corrosion. This
project includes:
Pressure washing, removing rust and damaged paint and
Repainting all structural steel.
