MINUTES: Ithaca Community Police Board

Chairperson Slattery called the meeting to order at 3:32 pm.
1. Approval of Minutes of Meeting of October 28, 2010
Commissioner Firenze moved to approve last month's minutes. Commissioner Laskowitz seconded. The
minutes were approved unanimously.
2. Comments from the Public
There were no comments from the Public.
3. Report from Common Council
There was no report from Common Council.
4. Report from Police Department
There was no report from the Police Department.
5. Report from Staff
The Board's 2011 budget is $9,000, the same amount as this year. Several calls were received from and
forms sent to citizens interested in submitting complaints.
6. Old Business
a. To date, no new appointments to the Ithaca Community Police Board have been made. No notice of new
applicants has been received by the Chair. To the Board's knowledge, Mayor Peterson is still considering
one of the applications already received.
b. There are several prospects for Youth Commissioner applicants. Commissioner Slattery has spoken to a
few potential applicants and their parents /guardians. For some, current sports commitments may conflict
with serving on the Board.
c. No response is needed at this time to the PBA letter.
7. New Business
No new business was presented at this time.
8. Adjournment to Executive Session @ 3:40 pm
Motion by Commissioner Laskowitz, seconded by Commissioner Firenze, to move to executive session to
discuss and vote on results of investigations of open complaints, then return to public session and adjourn.
There were no open complaints, but staff received communications from two complainants whose cases
have been closed.
1. Complainant asked for case to be reopened. Because the timeframe for review was exceeded and
complainant failed to respond to numerous attempts at contact, the Board decided to keep the case
closed. They are happy to work with complainant on any new concerns. (Laskowitz /1109)
2. Complainant wrote to express dissatisfaction with the Board's finding. (Slattery/ #0410)
No new complaints and no new citizen letters of compliment were received between the October and
November board meetings.
