MINUTES: Ithaca Community Police Board
PLACE: Third floor Common Council Chambers, City hall, 108 East Green Street,
TIM EMATE: September 24, 2009 @ 3:30 pm
Present: Commissioners Dan Slattery, Chuck Firenze, Jonathan Laskowitz , Gino Bush.
Bird McGruder.
Police Chief, Ed Vallely, Deputy Chief Barber, Staff, N. Falconer. CC Liaison, JR
Claiborne.
1. The meeting was called to order at 3:30pm. The minutes of August 27, 2009 were
approved unanimously.
2. No public was present.
3. Common Council Report.
General discussion of issues before Common Council.
4. Report from Police:
General discussion of current issues.
5. Old Business:
Staff asked to gather rules of hiring policy before search for new personnel.
Schedule set up for participation in tabling at Apple Harvest.
6. New Business:
Agreement to change dates of November and December meetings (because of holidays)
to November 19th and December 17th.
The death of former member Herb Nelson was announced. Staff was asked to purchase
appropriate card of sympathy, sign and send to his family.
7. Motion to move to Executive Session to report on current investigations, vote on them,
and return to Public Session , report, and adjourn (motion by J. Laskowitz)
8. One new complaint was discussed.
1) The complaint was a second one from a citizen whose first complaint was recently
investigated by Commissioner Firenze and ( new) Commissioner Bush. It was assigned to
Commissioner Firenze.
