MINUTES: Ithaca Community Police Board
PLACE: Third floor Common Council Chambers, City hall, 108 East Green Street,
TIME/DATE: August 27, 2009 @ 3:30 pm
Present: Commissioners Dan Slattery, Chuck Firenze, Jonathan Laskowitz, Gino Bush.
Police Chief, Ed Vallely, Staff, N. Falconer. CC Liaison, JR Claiborne. Absent, Bird
McGruder.
New member Gino Bush was introduced and given badge and notebook of
regulations and procedures.
1. The meeting was called to order at 3:50 pm. J. Laskowitz assumed the position of
Chair in the initial absence of D. Slattery. The minutes of July 23rd were approved
unanimously.
2. No public was present.
3. Common Council Report.
Discussion of new smoking bans; these are still in committee.
4. Report from Police:
General discussion of current issues.
5. Old Business:
Staff asked to gather rules of hiring policy before search for new personnel.
Tabling for Apple Harvest. Staff send date by email to Board members.
6. New Business: None
7. Motion to move to Executive Session to report on current investigations, vote on them,
and return to Public Session, report, and adjourn (by J. Laskowitz)
8. Three complaint investigations were discussed and voted on.
a) The first complaint remains a court case, and any investigation will be postponed
until that is completed. Decision: carry over until notified. Vote unanimous.
b) (Laskowitz) No response from his complainant. Staff wrote two weeks ago that we
would not continue if he did not respond. Close investigation ; considered withdrawn.
Vote unanimous.
c ) ( Slattery) Investigation resulted in Commissioner recommending this complaint is
unfounded. Voted unfounded, unanimously.
