HomeMy WebLinkAboutMN-CPB-2009-04-23ITHACA COMMUNITY POLICE BOARD MEETING DRAFT MINUTES: Ithaca Community Police Board PLACE: Third floor Common Council Chambers, City hall, 108 East Green Street, TIME/DATE: April 23, 2009 @ 2:30 pm Present: Commissioners Wigden, Slattery, Chuck Firenze, Bird MacGruder, Jonathan Laskowitz. Police Chief, Ed Vallely, Donna Green, Staff, N. Falconer 1. The meeting was called to order at 2:30 pm for the appeal of E. Schooley to grant his taxi license, which was previously denied by the Police Chief. This hearing was adjourned at 3:30 pm and will be taken up again on May 28, 2009. 2. 3:30 pm: Hearing of Ryan Kenyon requesting that his taxi license be reinstated after being suspended by Chief Vallely. Present: Commissioners Laskowitz, Firenze, Bird, Wigden, Slattery. Chief Vallely, Donna Green (city legal representative), Stephen Getman, Esq, (legal representative for Ryan Kenyon.) , Ryan Kenyon, Sheila Kenyon, Nancy Falconer. 3. Motion to adjourn to executive session to discuss and decide on Mr. Kenyon's appeal, then return for the usual meeting of the Board ,made by B.Wigden, second by J. Laskowitz. Results were: The Chiefs suspension of Mr. Kenyon °s license was upheld with the following vote: Four voted affirmative for upholding it. One abstained on the basis that she knew Mr. Kenyon. 4. Regularly scheduled Board Meeting for April 23, 2009 Present: Commissioners Laskowitz, Firenze, Bird, Wigden, Slattery. Staff, Nancy Falconer. Absent J. Claiborne, common council liaison. a. Approval of minutes of March 26, 2009- motion by Laskowitz and Wigden to approve; unanimous yea vote. b. Common Council not present for report. c. Old business: None d. New Business Commissioner MacGruder proposed that we send congratulations to those promoted in the Police Department. Approved. e. Motion to move to Executive Session to report on current investigations, vote on them, and return to Public Session , report, and adjourn (by J. Laskowitz) E Three investigations were discussed. 1. ( Laskowitz) This complainant was given the opportunity to speak to the Chief, and was content not to pursue it further. Voted closed. 2. (Wigden) This complainant did not respond to telephone or letter attempting to reach him. Voted closed. 3. (Firenze) This was voted unfounded ( unanimously) and closed.
