MINUTES: Ithaca Community Police Board
PLACE: Third floor Common Council Chambers, City hall, 108 East Green Street,
TIME/DATE: October 23, 2008 @ 3:30 pm
Present: Commissioners Wigden, Slattery, Kerry Flannigan, Bird MacGruder, Jonathan Laskowitz.
.Deputy Police Chief, John Barber, Acting Chief Ed Vallely, Councilperson Nancy Schuler. Excused:
Staff, N. Falconer
The meeting was called to order at 3:30 pm.
1. Approval of minutes of September 25, 2008
Correction: Blank space for Officer's name should read Officer McKenna. Motion made by J
Laskowitz, seconded by B, Wigden. Minutes were approved unanimously with correction.
2. Comments by the Public
No one from the public was present.
3. Report from Common Council
Discussion of current items.
4. Report From Police Department
Discussion of recent arrests of those who were involved in shootings downtown Ithaca. All
were local people.
5. Old Business
. A donation will be made by board members to the D.A.P. program of Family and Children's in
the name of Bree Everhart. Commissioner Laskowitz will take care of the details.
The recent Apple Harvest festival tabling by CPB was extremely successful and attracted more
than ever parents and children to the table. One application for Board member was turned in as a
result.
6. New Business:
No new business was brought up.
7. Motion to Adiourn to Executive session To Discuss Results of Current Investigations.
Motion by Flannery, second by Wigden.
8. Return to Public Session, Report on Findings and Adiournment
Six investigations were discussed and voted on by members.
1. (Flannery investigation) This complaint was investigated and complainant quoted as satisfied and dropping the
complaint. Voted closed.
2. (Slattery) This complaint was investigated and voted resolved and closed.
3. This complaint is new and just assigned to Laskowitz.
4. (MacGruder) This complaint will be carried over as investigation is still ongoing.
5. (Wiggins) Investigator has attempted to call several times with no response. Voted to send a warning letter that
we will not continue if complainant does not respond in next two weeks.
6. (? Slattery?) Voted to carry over, as complainant wishes to meet with Chief and officer.
Meeting was adjourned at 4:30 p.m.
