MINUTES: Ithaca Community Police Board
PLACE: Third floor Common Council Chambers, City hall, 108 East Green Street,
TIME/DATE: August 28, 2008 @ 3:30 pm
Present: Commissioners Wigden, Slattery, Kerry Flannigan, Bird MacGruder, J. Laskowitz ,Acting
Police Chief, Ed Vallely. Councilperson Nancy Schuler: Excused: Staff, N. Falconer.
1. Approval of minutes of July 24, 2008
Report of complaint investigated by Flannery was resolved rather than unfounded, as was
reported in July's minutes. As corrected, minutes were approved unanimously. Motion made by
B. Wigden, seconded by B. McGruder.
2. Comments by the Public
No one from the public was present.
3. Resort from Common Council
Discussion of current items, including the police coverage of the Commons.
4. Report From Police Department
a. There have been many citations issued in Collegetown to Cornell students. Also many
significant arrests of other than college students.
b. Many letters of commendations for officers and other police staff were passed to us, which we
will follow with our own compliments.
c. Lt. Williams is retiring at the end of September this year, and there are many open positions in
the department.
5. Old Business
.The 09 budget has been handed to the Comptroller. Total amount of it is $9995. It will be
emailed to board members.
6. New Business: The Board would like to make a donation to a fund that Nancy Falconer's
grandaughter had a fondness for so that it could send a memorial in her name.
Apple Festival plans for tabling will be discussed at the next meeting,.
Kerry Flannery will be leaving the Board after December 31 s', 2008.
T. Motion to Adiourn to Executive session To Discuss Results of Current Investigations.
Motion by Flannery, second by Wigden.
8. Return to Public Session, Report on Findings and Adiournment
Progress on one complaint was discussed.
1. (Flannery investigation) This complaint has been closed and is recorded as corrected to resolved. A corrected
letter needs to be sent to the complainant.
