MINUTES: COMMUNITY POLICE BOARD (DRAFT)
DATE: April 24, 2008
Place: Common Council Room, City Hall, Ithaca
Time: 3:30 pm
Present: D. Slattery, B.Wigden, Kerry Flannigan, McGruder, Acting Chief Vallely, ,
Councilperson Schuler; Nancy Falconer, staff. Excused, Jonathan Laskowitz.
1. Minutes of March 27, 2008 were approved unanimously; moved by K.
Flannigan, second by McGruder.
2. No public was present.
3. Common Council report:
Sue Kiddell is project director of relocation of GIAC while renovations are being
done, and which will probably occur in January of 09. tel 274 -6577.
. 4. Police Report
a) In the attempt to quell speeding autos in the city, Chief Vallely reported 400
traffic tickets were issued in the 2nd quarter of 2007, and increased in the first
quarter of 2008 to 2022.
b) 5 positions will soon be open as people leave. Aggressive recruiting is ongoing,
and five potential officers are in the process of interviews and tests.
c) Repaving on 79 east above the turnoff to Mitchell Street will start in a week or
so, as will other such jobs. This will result in some very different traffic patterns
of main routes through residential streets for a few weeks.
5. Old Business
a) No word as yet from the potential youth member who took an application.
b) Ron Passmore, our previous Board member who had just retired, died in his
apartment at Titus last week. The Board members asked staff to send a card to his
brother in Corning and to contribute $25.00 to Friendship Center in his name.
6. New Business:
L. Gossa has told D. Slattery that he will probably apply to fill one of the empty
memberships after May this year.
7. Motion to Adiourn to Executive Session was not exercised this session as there
are no investigations carried over and no new complaints.
