MINUTES: Ithaca Community Police Board ( Draft)
PLACE: 3nd floor Common Council Chambers, City hall, 108 East Green Street,
Ithaca, N.Y.
TIME /DATE: March 22, 2007 @ 3:30 pm
Present: Commissioners Wigden, Slattery, Passmore, Flannery, Laskowitz, Perkins
(Chief Signer and Deputy Chief Vallely at 4:15), staff; Nancy Falconer. Excused,
Nelson, Whispell and Common Council Liaison Coles.
1. Minutes of the February 22, 2007 meeting were approved as read. Motion made
by
Laskowitz, second by Passmore. Vote unanimous.
2. Comments by the Public: None present.
3. Report from the Police Department: No action
4. Old Business:
a.) Several potential board members have been asked to apply and seem interested.
5. New Business:
a.) Chair proposed that letters of commendation be sent to Officers McKenna and Nelson for
their heroism in rescuing a fallen Cornell student from the Cascadilla gorge. Board agreed. In
addition, it was recommended that letters also be sent to Officers Scaglione and Kovel for their
part in finding the man reported missing. A laurel will also be sent to the Journal.
6. Motion by Passmore) to adjourn to Executive session to discuss progress on investigations.
7. Adjourn to Public session, report, meeting adjourned.
Four investigations were discussed:
1. This investigation had already been closed because of lack of response from the
complainant after several attempts.
2. This investigation is still open and will be carried over for another attempt to meet with the
complainant.
3. This investigation is still open for further meetings planned. Carried over.
4. This complainant is satisfied with the results of investigation, and investigation will be
closed.
