HomeMy WebLinkAboutMN-CPB-2007-02-22ITHACA COMMUNITY POLICE BOARD MEETING DRAFT MINUTES: Ithaca Community Police Board PLACE: third floor Common Council Chambers, City hall, 108 East Green Street, TIME/DATE: February 22, 2006 @ 3:30 pm Present: Commissioners Wigden, Slattery, Laskowitz, Passmore, Nelson, Kerry Flannery Councilperson Maria Coles. Staff, N. Falconer. Visitors: Elizabeth Culver, and husband Shakya Bodhiwamsa and son. Absent: Chief Lauren Signer, Deputy Chief Ed Valelley, Chavonte Perkins, Excused: Satome Hill, Ron Passmore. The meeting was called to order at 3:30 pm. Election of new officers: J. Laskowitz moved to appoint D. Slattery as Chair for 2007, and Bob Wigden as Vice Chair. Second by Nelson; Approved unanimously. 1. Approval of minutes of January 25, 2007 and February 22, 2007 Motion made by D. Slattery, second by J. Laskowitz. Minutes were approved unanimously. 2. Comments by the Public Mr. Bodhiwamsa and his wife explained their wish to have the CPB explore the reasons for a lack of response from the IPD for a taxi license for a period lasting eight months. CPD accepted a complaint from the visitors and assigned it. 3. Report from Common Council Council person Coles reported that the CPB IS NOT REQUIRED TO ATTEND A BUDGET MEETING, BUT SIMPLY TO ADHERE TO THE USUAL SCHEDULE FOR preparation of its budget and to submit same to Mr. Thayer., the Comptroller.. 4. Report From Police Department No one from the Police Department was present. 5. Old Business No old Business considered. 6. New Business a) A motion was made by J. Laskowitz to send a formal letter of support from this Board to Mayor Peterson on behalf of the reappointment of Marjorie Olds to City Court Judge and the continuance of the Drug Court as an alternative to incarceration. Second by B. Wigden and passed unanimously. b ) Commissioner Whispell is in the process of writing a letter of resignation from the CPB due to his illness. Commissioner Hill has also expressed a desire to take a leave of absence due to the burden of her school work. The Board is in the position of looking for new members as well as anticipating that Ms. Perkins is graduating from school and leaving for college. 7. Adiournment to Executive Session to discuss open investigations 8. Return to Public Session to retort, four complaints discussed and adjournment 1. One investigation voted closed, listed as withdrawn because of no response. 1. One other voted closed, also no response from complainant after many attempts to contact. 2 investigations are continuing over to next month as investigations have not been completed.
