Present: Commissioners Wigden, Slattery, Laskowitz, Youth Board Member
Perkins, Passmore, Whispell, Nelson, Chief Signer, Deputy Chief Curatolo,
Common Council Liaison Coles.
Excused: Commissioners Flannery, Hill, staff, Falconer.
1. Approval of minutes of April 27, 2006 : Moved by Laskowitz, second by
Slattery, approved unanimously.
2. No public was present.
3. Common Council report:
Liaison Coles lauded the IPD for their successful efforts over party time at Ithaca
College.
4. Report from the Police Department:
a) Slope day went rather quietly, no major problems with C -town.
b) Discussion of vacancies and appointments followed and one suspension.
Aggressive recruitment is ongoing.
c) Taxi license heard last month has been signed and made valid.
5. Old Business:
a) Chair spoke to issue of need for complete confidentiality on taxi hearing
information and voting.
b) A commendation has been received for Officer Cotton and Officer Brotherton.
c) Wigden, Laskowitz and Slattery met to discuss outreach involving youth from
the high school and other possibilities: Listed were : Making JD s aware of the
function of CPB; Attending orientations at the high schools; PSA s, role playing at
Community functions; Newspaper articles on CPB, at Ithaca Journal, Times,
Cornell Daily Sun; Ithacan; The Tattler discussing what we do and how to file with
us; and encouraging IPD administration to forward commendations to us so we can
contact officers. (Institutionalize a process. For this .)
6. New business
a) Chevante wishes to bring some high school friends to the meeting next month to
discuss their concerns.
b) Chiefs attended the Ithaca Drug Treatment Court Ceremonies.
c) GIAC office is reopened after repairs.
7. Motion made to adiourn to Executive Session to discuss investizations• by
Slattery.
8. Motion to return to Public Session and report results Two cases were discussed
and voted on: One: Unfounded: an animus. Voted closed. Two: Withdrawn.
