HomeMy WebLinkAboutMN-CPB-2005-04-28ITHACA COMMUNITY POLICE BOARD MEETING DRAFT M INUTES: Ithaca Community Police Board PLACE: TitusTowers I, Community Room, 800 Plain Street TIME !DATE: XWW �8, 2005 at 3:30 p.m. PRESENT: Commissioners Wigden, Laskowitz, Slattery, Whispell, Nelson, Flannery, Hill, Passmore, Chief Lauren Signer, Mayor Carolyn Peterson, guest Pat Pryor, Officer Firman, Deputy Chief Curatolo, Nancy Falconer, staff. Absent: Gayraud Townsend, Council Liaison. The meeting was called to order at 3:30 PM. 1. Approval of Minutes of April 22, 2004 Approval to accept minutes by Dan Slattery, second by Nelson. The minutes were approved unanimously. 2. Comments by Public No one from the public was present to speak. 3. Report From Common Council Common Council was not present. 4. Report From the Police Department a) Officers Mike Watkins, D. Lawrence and John Norman have been promoted to Sergeants. The swearing in will be held at 9 am on May 12. b) The `Commons Unit' has been organized, and will have regular coverage. c) Ithaca College's traditional Prospect Street Party will have good police coverage, and the street will be kept open to traffic. Rules for parties will be strictly enforced, as they have been for the past two weeks to prepare students for the stricter requirements. Much work has been done by the officers on a door -to -door basis to warn the students that they must adhere to the rules and keep in order or arrests will be made. d) A request for a taxi appeal on the denial of renewal of a license was received from John Kadar on behalf of one of his drivers. 5. Old Business a) Motion made by Commissioner Laskowitz to write the Mayor and ask to have Council Liaison replaced because of the lack of attendance of the Liaison. This motion was voted and carried unanimously. 6. New Business Tabling for Ithaca Festival may not be possible again this year, but request to participate has been made. Walmart has been approached for donation of helium tanks for future tablings. 7. Adiournment to Executive Session , motion made by Commissioner Laskowitz, second by Slattery to include former Chair of this Board, Pat Pryor, in the Executive Session. Approved unanimously. 8 Moved out of Executive Session upon arrival of Mayor Peterson. Mayor Peterson and Chief Signer then presented Commissioner Nelson with a Dedicated Service Plaque for his many years of service to this board and to the community and Police Department. 9. Adiournment back to Executive Session One new complaint was assigned in Executive Session: One other case remains open. awaiting a final call from complainant as to her wishes. The meeting was adjourned at 4:55 PM. and refreshments were served in honor of Commissioner Nelson's award.
