Green Street, City Hall, Common Council Chambers, 3rd floor DATE & TIME: 3:30 PM January 27, 2005 PRESENT: Commissioners Whispell, Flannery, Hill, Nelson, Slattery, Wigden, Laskowitz, Chief Signer, Deputy Chief Haus, Deputy Chief Curatolo Staff, Nancy Falconer Excused: Commissioner Passmore. Absent: Gayraud Townsend (Common Council Liaison) 1. Approval of Minutes of December 18 , 2004 meeting: Motion to approve by Dan Slattery, second by Dan Whispell. Approval unanimous. 2. Comments by the Public: Nathaniel Baker, Ithaca High School Student was present to observe . 3. Report from Common Council Common Council Liaison was absent. 4. Report from the Police Department The two new Deputy Chiefs were introduced. Discussion of the open positions and the good level of cooperation in the Department over contract negotiations, which are beginning. 5. Old Business a) The issue of tabling for the Chili festival in February was discussed and the Board decided not to participate this year. b) Ride alongs were discussed and Deputy Chief Haus offered to bring the schedule with appropriate times for board members to participate, to the next meeting. At that time commissioners will sign up for times to participate in ride alongs . 6. New Busines a) Orientation for new members was discussed and Chair suggested that the next meeting be devoted largely to orientation, and include all board members. Commissioner Nelson will devise a role play of a case as illustration, and Commissioner Laskowitz will participate. b) Badge replacements. Discussion of the question of replacement cost of lost or stolen or badges that are not returned when members retire. It is suggested that the current policy of replacing missing badges be changed. Motion made by Jon Laskowitz as follows: c) It is a requirement that each member possess a Commissioner badge. After today's date, the first badge will be paid for out of the CPB budget. If that badge is lost or stolen, the cost of the replacement will be the responsibility of the member who is in need of it. At the time of such an event, there will be consideration of some kind of needs based charge for the cost if necessary. Second by Herb Nelson, unanimously passed. d) Elections within CPB for 2005. Unanimously approved by members. Return to Public Session; Report: One case discussed, and carried forward. No action taken. Adjournment.
