MINUTES: Ithaca Community Police Board Minutes

PLACE Second Floor City Hall 108 East Green Street, 3:30 PM
PRESENT: Commissioners Wigden, Nelson, Laskowitz, Dill, Whispell,. Passmore
Deputy Chief Barnes, Nancy Falconer, Staff.
1. Approval of Minutes of March 24, 2004 Excused: Dan Slattery

3. Report from Common Council
Common Council Liaison was not present.
4. Report ,From the Police Department .Four positions acre open and prospects are being
interviewed now. The verbal Judo training has been completed by most officers, and the
force is gearing up for Senior weeks at the colleges, with the accompanying parties.
5. Old Business
a) The Mayor has some suggestions for new members which she will follow up.
b) Herb Nelson gave more details for the dinner for police and firefighters. The final date is
June 24th from 3:30 to 6 PM, and families will be invited to accompany the officers.
The meeting of the Board will be held on June 17th instead of June 24th. Board members
agreed to be available to help serve and fix the food. Casey Dill will provide a showing of the
Robotics Team work at IHS.
c) Commissioner Wigden clarified that the Board members are willing to proceed with
work on the method of presenting information to the police dept. as welt as the public on
appropriate behaviors of both when they interact during incidents. Discussion followed
including methods or formats for doing so. Staff is to compile several years record from the
files pertaining to reasons given for filing complaints and bring it to the May meeting.
6. New Business
No new business was introduced.
7. Motion to adjourn to Executive Session Moved by Commissioner Laskowitz, second by
Commissioner Nelson..
8. Return to Public Session
_Three investigations were discussed. Two were carried forward, no action taken.
