HomeMy WebLinkAboutMN-CPB-2004-01-22ITHACA COMMUNITY POLICE BOARD MEETING DRAFT M INUTES: Ithaca Community Police Board PLACE: City Hall, 108 East Green St. third floor in Council Chambers TIME / DATE: January 22, 2004 at 3:30 p.m. PRESENT: Commissioners Wigden, Laskowitz, Passmore, Slattery, Dill, Nelson. Deputy Chief David Barnes, Chief Victor Loo, Nancy Falconer, staff Excused: Commissioner Whispell The meeting was called to order at 3:35 PM. Commissioner Wigden was reelected as Chair; Nelson as trainer for new members and Passmore as Vic Chair. Voted unanimously. 1. Approval of Minutes of December 18, 2003 The minutes were approved unanimously. 2. Comments by Public No one from the public was present to speak. 3. Report From Common Council The new Common Council appointee, Gayraud Townsend, was not present. 4. Report From the Police Department a) Officer Jeff Huddle was appointed the new president of the PBA. b) Dr. George Thompson, the expert in `Verbal Judo' will return in April and will present three sessions. 5. Old Business a) The committee to prepare a pamphlet on the actions citizens should take when confronted by an officer, met last week. They will meet again before bringing the results to the full Board. b) Tabling for the Great Chili cookout: Decided to carry out an 11 to 3 pm tabling on February 21 if the weather is not too bad. Members who volunteered ( Wigden 11 to 12 and Laskowitz 12 to 2) will check with each other that morning. c) A new identification banner will be made for the tabling. d) The commend or complain form will be shortened and reformatted to correct the recent confusion by citizen: between the two pages. 6. New Business The Starlight Club requested a speaker from this Board for a Pegasys presentation. 7. Adiournment to Executive Session 8.Return to public session to report on complaint decisions: One complainant has not responded to several emails sent to the only address given us. Members voted to send a letter stating that the investigation will be closed if there is no reply in two weeks. Two other complaints were voted closed as withdraw because of no response by complainant after several attempts. One is being held open at the complainant's request. The meeting was adjourned at 5:00 pm
