HomeMy WebLinkAboutMN-CPB-2003-04-24`43 COMMUNITY POLICE BOARD MEETING MINUTES: Ithaca Community Police Board PLACE: Common Council Chambers, City Hall, 108 East Green St. TIME AND DATE: 3:30 PM, April 24, 2003 PRESENT: Commissioners Wigden, Nelson, Whispell, Laskowitz, McGruder, Rovelstad, Chief V. Loo, Deputy Chief Barnes, Alderperson Pryor, staff Nancy Falconer; Excused: Commissioner Passmore Guest: Casey Dill, prospective youth representative The meeting was called to order at 3:32 PM. 1. introductions: The new Chief of IPD was introduced to members. Casey Dill was introduced. 2. Chair Bob Wigden explained the liaison responsibilities of CPB. 3. Approval of minutes The March 27, 2003 meeting minutes were moved approved by Commissioner Laskowitz, seconded by Commissioner Whispell and unanimously approved. 4. Comments by the Public Officer Andy Hillman was named Officer of the Month by the Kiwanis Club. Faye Gougakis, of Ithaca, stated she objects to the possibility of dogs being allowed on the Commons, and that she objects to the lack of responsiveness by the police to citizen complaints about barking dogs. 5. Report by Common Council Question of report of CPB going to Common Council. Action: tabled until May. 6. Report From Police Department Reports on activity re Slope Day, Senior Week and investigations of accidents. No action taken. 7. Old Business a) Tabling for Ithaca Festival; May 311 to 4 p.m. Space will be held at `Cops and Kids' table outside Center Ithaca. b) Other methods of publicity and outreach were suggested, such as schools, farmers market, Friendship Center, grocery stores, TC3, Cornell and I.C. Action taken: Tabled until May meeting. c) Elections were held for Chair and Vice Chair of the CPB. Action Taken: Bob Wigden was re- elected Chair, and Herb Nelson was re- elected Vice Chair. Voted for: Wigden, Nelson, Laskowitz, Rovelstad, McGuire, Whispell. Against: None 8. New Business a) A prospective youth member for the Board was presented. Questions were asked of Casey by Board members about his interests and attitudes. 9. Motion made to adiourn to Executive Session: by Laskowitz, second by McGruder 10. Return to Public Session for report No Action taken. Move to adjourn, D. Whispell
