1. Approval of Minutes of meeting of December 13, 2001 1 CITY CLERK'S OFFICE t
Correction made to minutes: under Police Report, #4a changed to: money was raise y o
schoolchildren to buy a bulletproof vest for the police dog . In addition, the Kennel Club bought two
more for the remainder of the dogs. The minutes were approved unanimously as corrected.
2. Comments from the Public
No comments from the public.
3. Report From Common Council
a)Report that Commissioner Rovelstad will be permitted to put together the web site for CPB , but
will be asked to spend a short time with the outside consultant on the current city protocol for doing so.
b) Mayor will appoint new members to the Board in February. Currently we have two
applications, Ron Passmore and Gino Bush.
4.Report by Police Department
a) Chief Barnes reported that Officer Coton has been nominated as Officer of the Month.
b) One new Dispatcher has resigned. The Department is looking for new applicants. An applicant
can be hired provisionally and take the test later.
c) Officer Christine Barkley is in charge of organizing the next course for civilians on police
procedures and tactics and presented the following information.. It will start March 18, 2002 and run
once a week for nine weeks until May 19. It will be held on the fourth floor of the IPD from 7 pm for 2
1/2 hours. This session can hold 20 to 25 people. The course is repeated during the year. Applications
are at the IPD station, and at GIAC CPB office. Each session will be given by a different officer. Chief
Basile wishes each CPB, member to attend at some time during the year, and Chair Bob Wigden will meet
with Officer Barkley to determine how trhe CPB can share in part of this course. Commissioner
Laskowitz suggested that the evaluation and summary reports be obtained after the finish of the courses.
5. Old Business
a) Alderperson Pryor suggested that a board member make up a calendar of events for tabling,
and Commissioner McGruder agreed to take this on and present it to staff for implementing. The Great
Chili Cookout is February 23, and members agreed to help table a CPB offering that day.
b) It was proposed and moved that the March meeting be changed to the 21st because of the
holidays and that City Prosecutor will be invited to join CPB at that meeting for a general discussion.
6.New Business
a) Commissioner McGruder and Ron Passmore proposed that a food collection for the Red Cross
pantry be a project for the Board. Chair Wigden asked that they write up a proposal for implementing this
and for how it relates to the mission of the CPB in time for the 02/28 agenda.
b) Commisioner Wigden reported on his ride along on New Years Eve with Sgt. Doug Wright.
He asked Officer Wright to attend a meeting of CPB to discuss the PBA's differences with the CPB
investigations. He agreed to come, and will be invited to the 02/28 meeting.
c) Ride along sign ups for January included McGruder, and for February, Nelson..
7.- Meeting adjourned for refreshments and farewell to retiring Chair, Graham. Board members
registered their thanks to Commissioner Graham for her willingness to lead them for the past two years.
