MINUTES: Ithaca Community Police Board

PRESENT: Commissioners Graham, LaskowitE, Killeen, Nelson,Wigden,
Rovelstad. Akierperson Pryor, Deputy Chief David Barnes

1. Apawml of Minutes of meeting of April 26.2001
The minutes were approved unanimously. Moved by Commissioner Laskowitz,
seconded by Commissioner Graham.

No one from the public was present.
3. BeWd Fra M Common Council
No report was given by Common Council.
4.R4 Police Department
a) Deputy Chief Barnes reported that the city is having less trouble this year with student
misbehavior during Senior weeks for Cornell and Ithaca College
b) Senior staff have met with representatives of the video equipment company, and have
found that it will cost about $3000.00 to replace the final piece of equipment to make it
fully functioning. IPD is looking for funds for this within the Dept.

a) Re: new members. Commissioners Laskowitz and Wigden will inquire
about possible applications from Latino acquaintances. It was suggested that Mrya
Kovari will be asked to refer citizens from the mental health community.
b) Commissioner Graham has completed the letter to be sent by the Board to greet new
officers. She will finalize the draft and send it to staff to be typed on letterhead.
c) Commissioners Wigden and Laskowitz attended the Drug Treatment Meeting , and
spoke about the Board to the five who attended that meeting. Many questions arose about
the Board's actions and procedures, and since there was so much interest, the Drug Rx
Program will ask for a further presentation from this Board when more can attend.
d) Discussion of tabling events: Dates for future Latino and Human Services events will
be announced at the next meeting so that help can be arranged for the tablings. A
schedule for help with the upcoming (June 16) J uieteenth day was set up.
A motion was made to adjourn to Executive Session by Commissioner Laskowitz and
seconded by Commissioner Nelson.
