Approval of Minutes November 30, 2000 The Minutes were approved unanimously. 2. Comments from the Public • No one from the public attended 3.Report from Common Council a) Re: Board member Duane Robinson: Norma Schwab, City Attorney, told Alderperson Pryor that it appears appropriate to consider that Commissioner Robinson leave the Board, as the latest address he has given us is outside the city limits, and the Charter states that a Board member must be a resident of the city for two years prior to becoming a member of the Board. b) Incident reports will be forwarded to the Commissioners from the Chief. They are confidential, and must be returned to the Chief. 4. Report From Police Chief a) The three new recruits are in the final stages of training, and graduate in March. b) The Central Dispatch is likely to be set up and running in July, 2001. 5. Old Business a) The new video equipment is installed at the IPD garage booking area cell block, and is working. The equipment is not used continuously, but only when there is a problem. b) Commissioner Wigden submitted the format for the new forms. They were approved with some minor corrections, and he will redo them for immediate use. c) Report on Open House at Titus Towers. Commissioner Nelson will take the date of January 31" at 7 p.m. to the committee at Titus Towers for their approval. He wants the Board members to do a role play that night to demonstrate how we work, and the Board has agreed. Ithaca Community Police Board Meeting 2 December 21, 2000 d) Re: Contact with youths for filling Board spot: Commissioner Nelson has contacted Toshav Storrs who will submit suggestions regarding youth representation. e) Media Contacts: Commissioner Laskowitz contacted Gary Stewart at the Ithaca Journal and obtained an okay for continuing monthly articles about the CPB activities. Staff wrote the first of these for the Darts and Laurels column, as requested by the Board. Staff has also arranged to meet with Stewart after New Years to devise the format for future articles. 6. New Business a) Alderperson Pryor announced that she had a letter from Commissioner Jones, stating that he is leaving the Board at the end of his term on December 31, 2000. Commissioner Graham and Alderperson Pryor will draft a thank you letter to him. b) The draft of the End of the Year Report to Common Council was submitted and vetted by the Board members. Two minor changes of wording were suggested and these will be done before submitting the report, which was approved unanimously. Commissioner Laskowitz will present the report. c) Commissioner Nelson will speak to Kiwanis on two separate meetings in January, and requested that another Board member accompany him. Commissioner Wigden offered to do so. The meeting was adjourned to Executive session , moved by Commissioner Laskowitz and seconded by Commissioner Nelson. •
