PRESENT: Commissioners Graham, Jones, Laskowitz, Nelson, Killeen Wigden, Rovelstad. Alderperson Pryor, Chief Basile, Deputy Chief Barnes Adm. Staff, Nancy Falconer EXCUSED: Commissioner Dwayne Robinson Commissioner Graham called the meeting to order at 3:35 p.m. 1. Approve Minutes of Meeting of September 28 and October 26 2000 Correction was made as follows to the minutes of October 26 , 2000: The date of the December, 2000 meeting of the CPB will be Thursday, December 21, not December 16., 2000. Moved by Commissioner Killeen and seconded by Commissioner Nelson to accept, minutes were then approved unanimously. 2. Comments from the Public No visitors were present. I. Report from Common Council a) A brief report was presented on the 2001 budget as presented to Common Council. This budget was approved, but Alderperson Pryor is not yet aware of whether at the flat level presented or the minus 2% presented. b) The cooling unit for the GIAC CPB office will be installed at City expense as part of GIAC improvements, and so will not be a cost to the CPB budget. 4. Report from Police Chief a)The Chief reported that 911 will be going to a County wide dispatch center that will include fire, police and all emergency calls, at some indefinite time in the future. b) There are still three empty dispatch positions in the CPB, but the Department will soon hire for these three. Some from protected classes have been interviewed, and one is a Spanish speaking applicant. All will be filled by January first, 2001. c) Contract negotiations are still technically at an impasse, but are still being worked on, and seem close to being resolved. 5 Old Business a� Bob Wigden arranged to have the subcommittee members for editing the CPB literature contact him in order to meet before the next Board meeting. Suggestions from that meeting will be brought to the next meeting in December. b) Commissioner Nelson will arrange for a CPB Open House at Titus Towers. He will speak to Titus personnel and arrange for a Thursday evening in January. Ithaca Community Police Board Meeting November 30, 2000 z c) Commissioner Wigden proposed a committee to work on organizing Community contacts. This included a suggestion for sending a letter offering to have a Commissioner speak at their meetings. Tim Logue, staff person , has a list of all City of Ithaca neighborhood associations. Commissioners Nelson and Jones were appointed to work on this committee. d) Administrative Staff was asked to send Police Officer names who received letters of appreciation or commendations to the Ithaca Journal in December for publication in the laurels column. Commissioner Laskowitz will contact the editor re putting a regular column in the Journal in praise of good works by local police. e)A discussion of whether to extend the length of the regular Board meeting followed. It was decided instead to utilize a timed agenda and keep the length of the meeting the same, 3:30 to 5 p.m. Commissioner Graham and staff will arrange the agendas accordingly. f) Youth Board position/ youth advisory group: Commissioners Jones and Nelson will take on spearheading this move. The meeting was adjourned to Executive session ; moved by Commissioner Laskowitz and seconded by Commissioner Nelson. •
