MINUTES: Ithaca Community Police Board
PLACE: Third Floor, Common Council Chambers, City Hall, 108 East Green Street

PRESENT: Commissioners Bush, Firenze, Hang, Laskowitz, Rogers, and Slattery, Alderperson
Zumoff; Staff: Herden; Deputy Chief Barber
ABSENT/EXCUSED: Commissioners Kane and Smith
GUEST: none
Chairperson Slattery called the meeting to order at 3:30 pm.
1. Introductions
2. Approval of Minutes of Meeting of July 28, 2011
The minutes were approved unanimously.
3. Comments from the Public
There were no comments from the public.
4. Report from Common Council
Alderperson Zumoff informed the Board that the City is waiting for a proposal from Cornell
regarding the gorge bridges.
5. Report from Police Department
Deputy Chief Barber reported that IPD had their detail out, prepared for the return of the college
students. Although the police detail was smaller than usual by half, there
6. Report from Staff
CPB Commissioner Fred Madeo resigned his position. Herden read his letter aloud to the
assembled commissioners. Updated CPB brochures are being disseminated to various agencies
around Ithaca.
7. Old Business
Discussion of potential requests for City Charter changes from CPB to the Charter & Code
Review Working Group was tabled due to low commissioner attendance this month. The
discussion will be carried over to August's meeting.

No new business was discussed.
9. Adjournment to Executive Session @ 3:43 pm
Motion by Commissioner Laskowitz and seconded by Commissioner Bush to move to executive
session to discuss open complaints then return to public session and adjourn.
One open complaint was discussed:
1. Discussion of the open complaint (Firenze and Kane) was carried over to the September
2011 meeting. (#0611)
No new complaint and no new citizen letters of compliment were received between the June and
July board meetings.
