REPORT FROM COMMON COUNCIL:
Common Council Liaison Kerslick reported that the Mayor has sent out his 2016
budget guidelines to Department Heads. Departments are required to submit a
0% budget which includes salary increases by August 1st. Common Council will
start their review of the budget in October.
REPORT FROM THE POLICE DEPARTMENT:
Acting Deputy Police Chief Monticello sent a notice to the Board stating that he
would not be able to attend the meeting but had the following points of interest:
1. The first Ithaca Police Department Open House was a huge success with over
100 members from the community in attendance.
2. The body cameras have arrived. They will be rolled out once the docking
stations are wired for the building and training has been conducted, hopefully in
September.
3. The Department is currently looking at hiring at least one lateral transfer police
officer from another agency and are seeking other qualified applicants. The next
police exam is scheduled in November.
4. Tom Condzella was sworn in as a police officer on 6/29/15. He is a lateral
transfer with prior law enforcement experience in Tompkins County and
downstate. He is currently assigned to a field training officer. It is anticipated that
his training will be completed by 9/25/15.
5. National Night Out is scheduled for Tuesday, August 4, 2015.
6. Five Ithaca Police Officers were awarded the Kiwanis Officer of the Month for
an incident that occurred in October 2013 where 4 people were stabbed. Two
persons were subsequently arrested and convicted.
OLD BUSINESS:
Commissioner Rogers raised questions regarding the brochure the Board was
interested in producing to raise public awareness about their role within the
community. Due to the lack of time Board members have to work on a project
like this, Council Liaison Kerslick volunteered to contact the City Clerk to see if
she had an intern available to develop the brochure.
Commissioner Kane questioned if anyone was updating the information in the
lobby of the Police Station. She wanted to make sure that the most current
Compliment/Complaint forms were available to the public at that location.
