Minutes Minutes of the preceding meeting were duly approved.
Stewart Attorney W.H. Smith, representing property owners on
Avenue Stewart Avenue north of Williams Street to South Avenue,
Parking filed a petition requesting permission to park cars on
one side of the street in this territory, the sa«ie as is
allowed south of Williams Street. -
On motion of Alderman Comfort, the Matter was `
referred to the Police Committee for investigation and report.
Central Dr. Leo Larkin reviewed the history, accomplishments
Index and present status of the Central Index, with particular
reference to the cost of maintaining it.
There was a general discussion of its use and value
and some question as to the justice in making the City stand
the entire expense of operating this service.

RESOLVED: that the bill for services of Ifrs. Wigley
for operating the Central Index be approved and paid as _
submitted for the period February first to July first and that
subsequent to July first for the balance of this year the
rate of pay for this service be approved and paid at
$25„ 00 per month, and further
RESOLVED: that the total amount necessary to meet the
foregoing expense be and the same is hereby appropriated for
such purpose from the Surplus account to the W- elfare account. a�5--

Life Mr_;, L.C. Boynton, Life Insurance Adjuster of
Insurance the Welfare Department, explained his work with
Welfare the recipients of public relief as regards the
Department adjustment of their Life Insurance coverage a-nd
premium payments. He filed a, report on what
had been eco::plished and spoke optimistically of future
service as the recipients become better inforr_ied of its
benefits.
So.Aurora St. The Clerk read a letter received from a tourist
R.R.Crossing complaining of the severe and abrupt burp in the
pavement on So. Aurora Street at the
D.L.&W. grade crossing.
Alderman Townsend reported that this matter had
been called to his attention, as Chairman of the Sign
Cor:Laiittee of the Automobile Club, he had ordercql a warning
sign for the north side of this crossing, the-swtith sidak.

Mayor Bergholtz reported that the City Engineer was
taking this natter up with Mir. Benedict, the Grade Crossing
Engineer of the Public Service Corzaission, and that the City
was unable to remedy this condition without the cooperative
action of the Railroad.
Dade A coniiunication was received from Mr. Chas. Dade
Property requesting the Council to return to hiri his property
which the City had bid in at the 1928 City Tax sale.
He stated he had just found ivoTk and was willing to pay all
costs and charges together wit.: accrued taxes if the Council
would co:-ipro:.iise the added penalty at 25% instead of 371%
thus the total payDent for cede _ption $24o.95, which
a:_iount he agreed to pay irii-_iediately.

Welfare Commissioner Green reported that his departmental

Work The Clerk read requests from the Board of Public
Relief Storks for appropriations of $3,000 and $10,000 to
Loan carry on work relief.

WHEREAS, the Common Council, at a meeting on
June 19, '933., authorized by resolution the bomrowing of
$24, 400 for the purpose of securing additional monies
for the continuation of Work Relief,and
WHEREAS, the work so authorized has been about
completed and the Board of Public Storks has requested
additional appropriations to continue Mork Relief,
now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED, that the request of the Board of
Public Works be approved and pursuant to Section 10 of
Chap. 798 of the Laws of 1931 as amended and other
applicable sections of said chapter and ar_lendrlents theretq,
the Common Council of the City of Ithaca hereby
authorizes the issuance of interest bearing notes or
other obligations of the City of Ithaca at an interest
rate not to exceed 6 jo, in the cur.a of $7, 350 labor and/or
$5, 650 i.Zaterial, a total sui:i of $13, 000 or such part
thereof as may be required, such notes or obligations to
conforn to the requirements of said section, in order to
provide funds for the use of the Board of Public Works
and the Stork Bureau to undertake the 'fork Relief Projects
herein listed, each and all of which are hereby approved,
to wit:
