Reinhardt had each filed damage claims in the amount of $10,000 and on recommendation of the City Attorney the seiLe were referred to the Board of Public Works for investigation and recom:_:endation. G COMMON COUNCIL REGULAR MEETING _ - NOVEMBER_5.1930 PRESENT: Mayor Bergholtz Aldermen --Gill, Sammons, Lowe,Causer,D4yers, Casterline,Atkinson,Himes, Ro gal s ky, Ho f fman Attorney--Treman Chamberlain --Snyder Chief of Police --Marshall The Minutes of the preceding meeting were duly approved. Fni'r Grounds at` 20, 500. The Mayor advised the Council that the City had been offered an option to purchase the 44 acre Fair Ground Tract, including all buildings -for a total of $20,500, suggesting that he deemed the proposal worthy of careful consideration with a thought to the future expansion of the City, and recommended that a Committee be appointed to me.ke a careful study of the proposition and report at the next meeting; said Committee to consist of three members of the Common Council, three members of the Board of Public Works and three citizens. By Alderman Hoffman:seconded by Alderman Hines: RESOLVED: that the Mayor appoint a -Committee as recommended. Carried. Damage Claim A communication was received from Ben Sovocool as Attorney, in connection with a Damage Claim, and the same was referred. to the City Attorney for report. L.V.R.R. Co. Agreen.ent A new agreement was submitted from the Lehigh Valley R.R. Co.,whereby the City would termin- ate a 26 year old agreement which was of mo-further use due to change of conditions, and on recommenda- tion of the City Attorney, the Mayor and City Clerk were authorized to execute the new agreement. ,Dillon Claim Rejected Attorney Treman reported that the claim of J.J. Dillon was not in proper form and recomrended that it be rejected. On motion of Alderman Hines the claim was rejected. Reinhardt Dp age Claims Attorney Treman reported that the Reinhardt damage claims had been reviewed by the Hoard of Public Works and that the Board recommends to the Council that the; be denied. By Alderman Causer:seconded by Alderman Sammons: RESOLVED: that the claims for damages filed by Mabel C. and Leon A. Reinhardt be and the same is hereby denied. and rejected. Carried. C ha rter - Revision Attorney Treman reported on his progress with • revision of certain Sections of the.Charter and eapiained some that he planned. to present for the Council's approval at the next meeting. gash . Reimbursement The City Clerk requested authority to reimburse his cash in the amount of $6.00 for an advance made to a young lady picked up by the Police Department without funds for her return to 'Buffalo. On motion of Alderman Causer the request was granted. 97 Charity DepF rtment $10000. A p,ropriation Depository Bonds.First National & Tompkins Co., National Bank. Traffic Arterial Hi ghwa.y s — 2— Commissioner Green made a. re -port in connection the increase -in the needs of the Charity Department, and the, Mayor called attention to,the increasing importance of this work and..requested the Committee meet more often with the Commissioner. with to Commis�Aoner Green pointed out that the additional appropriation made at the preceding meeting was about used up and that he would need at least $1,000 to take care of the audit submitted. By Alderman Hines: seconded by Alderman Sammons: RESOLVED: that an a.dditiona.l aprropriation'of $1,000 be and the same is hereby made to the Charity - Department. Carried. The Clerk submitted a Surety Bond from the First National Bank to cover the City's deposits`in thy: amount of+ 0115,000 being in addition to a $35,000. bond already on file, and also a personal Surety Bond of the ' Tompkins County National Bank in the amount of $200,000. By_Alderman Myers:seconded by Alderman Causer: RESOLVED: that the Depository Bonds submitted by.the Tompkins County National Bank and the First National Bank be and the sarre A$i hereby approved. Ca.tried. ' Chief of Police Marshall explained the new traffic conditions along the new route from Cortland and recommend... ed' that Ithaca, Road and Mitchell Street be -designated as arterial highways. Also recommending that Thurston Avenue be included. He explained that he would perhaps need a small additional appropriation to cover the expense of posting the intersecting streets with stop signs and placing a reflector danger signal at Dwyers Dam Curve. By,Alderman Hines:aeconded by Alderman Causer; RESOLVED: that Section14 of Chap. 6 of the City Ordinances be and the same is hereby amended by adding thereto in the list of Arterial Highways,, ITHACA ROAD MITCHELL STREET,from State St. to Ithaca. Rd. THURSTON AVENUE said amendment to take effect upon publication thereof. Stop & Carried. Warning Signs By Alderman Samnons:seconded by Alderman Causer: RESOLVED: that the recommendation of the Chief be approved and he be directed to proceed with the installation of the STOP and WARNING signs as suggested.
