RESOLVED, That the minutes of the June 25, 2014 Community Police Board
meeting be approved as published.
Carried Unanimously
REPORT FROM COMMON COUNCIL:
Common Council Liaison Kerslick reported that Common Council will be meeting
tonight with the Ithaca Fire Department and Ithaca Police Department on the
departments plans and needs for the 2015 budget. The official budget
discussions will begin in October. The Mayor has asked departments to submit
budgets with a 1% reduction.
REPORT FROM THE POLICE DEPARTMENT:
Deputy Police Chief Townsend reported that Police Chief Barber is working on a
power point presentation with regards to the budget process. Deputy Police Chief
Townsends is continuing to work on updating the policies and procedures for
accreditation. They are still working on filling 5 vacant positions. They had 3
candidates; however, one declined the position. The 2 others will start the
academy in Syracuse.
OLD BUSINESS:
Commissioner Rogers reminded everyone to do a ride-a-long with the IPD Patrol
Officers. He stated that even doing four hours of a shift helps you to understand
what the officers do out there and exposes the Commissioners to the IPD
Officers.
New Business:
A discussion was held on the meeting in August. The Board decided to wait to
see if there would be any agenda items or complaints closer to the meeting dates
before making a determination to postpone or cancel the meeting.
Commissioner DaGrossa addressed the Board regarding the e-mail she received
from Alderperson Cynthia Brock. She stated that she felt the best way to handle
the e-mail was to forward it to both of the Co-chairs to handle. Commissioner
Rogers contacted Alderperson Cynthia Brock to inform her that the Board has
complaint forms for the public to fill out and listed the various locations that the
forms can be found. He further told her that if any further information is needed to
please contact one of the Co-Chairs or the City Clerks Office.
Commissioner Onyejuruwa arrived at 3:56 pm.
The SWAT Demo is being held for Common Council members on August 7, 2014
and members of the Community Police Board are interested in attending.
Commmissioner Rogers will be in contact with Chief Barber in regards to the
CPB members attending.
ADJOURNMENT:
On a motion the meeting adjourned at 4:00 p.m.
Respectfully submitted:
Cindie L. Day
