Allen did a quick update regarding the recent advocacy the IYB has done with regard to Youth Bureau Association “draft” policy that was being proposed. A letter, a flyer and phone calls were made to Youth Bureaus across New York. A phone conference was held on Monday, December 12th regarding this. This change is similar to the previous state budget cuts, wherein they want to change the definition of municipality and trying to “steamline” the system. Currently there are 105 youth bureaus in New York State and 57 Counties. The Youth Bureau Association Board was meeting last night, December 13th to vote. We should be hearing soon of the results. Allen announced that the College Discovery Program was given an award at Cornell’s Town Gown Recognition Ceremony, on December 3rd. This is for a science related project. Monitoring/Shadowing Follow-up: Shannon Terry monitored Youth Council and stated what a fantastic job Jen Handy is doing. She spoke of how fundamental Jen is to this program and if Jen moves on to another job, it would be hard to see how this program would do without her knowledge and skills. Jen currently works 20 hours a week and the current budget for the program is $24,900 and Jen must fundraise for approximately $11,000 (50%). This fundraising takes away from the actual youth services activities that this program should be providing. Eddie suggested a possibility of a corporate sponsor and Jen will be looking into this to see if this is something that can be done. Currently community members and teachers nominate the members of Youth Council. There is a swearing in ceremony for five new members at Common Council Chambers on December 14th at 7:00 p.m. Bill stated that he has not yet monitored PSMP and Allen suggested that this be put off until January, as Eloise is currently out of the office due to a family emergency. Chris Milner was reappointed by the Mayor for his next term and September Johnson was also appointed. Jen Mainville did not seek reappointment and has resigned from the Board. youth:Resources:Executive Assistant:IYB Advisory Board:2011:IYB Advisory Board Minutes December 13 2011.doc Election of officers: Patrick Hollister declined the nomination as co-chair and Chris Milner also turned down the nomination for Chair. A vote was taken and all five members approved unanimous - the motion was approved. Shannon Terry advised that the Advisory Board should do the Jump On Board Event in February, 2012. Shannon recently received a recruitment email and she liked the format of it and suggested we tailor this to fit our recruitment for the board. She will email this out to Jody and Jen. Jen stated that we really need teachers and possibly new community members on the Board. There are currently 5 vacancies on the Board. Jen will be sending out a letter to the Board that can be used to send to people we know that we think would be a good fit for the board. If members do not want to send out from themselves, the Board could send the letter. Jen will send this out to folks in January. ADJOURNMENT: 7:0 p.m.
