Meeting called to order at 7:04 p.m. by Chris Milner
Suki Tabor, Y.E.S. Program Coordinator was introduced to Board members.
Review and approval of Minutes:
The Minutes of September 13, 2010 were approved. Bill made the motion and Caroline 2nd the motion, all were in
favor.
Officer’s Reports:
Common Council – Eddie Rooker - Excused
GIAC (Joan Spielholz) – Excused – No Report. Jen Handy suggested that we have a mixed meeting with the Board
members of Giac.
Southside Community Center (Kirtrina Baxter) – Absent
Staff Reports:
Suki Tabor did an update of the Y.E.S. Program. She advised that in 2010 200 kids were served and in 2009 700
kids were served, a great difference in numbers because of funding cuts. During the 2010 summer, the summer
TANF kids worked at Buttermilk State Park and built a brand new overlook, and also did a lot of gardening and
used the produce at DSS and Congo Square Market. Darlise Singleton took a position with BBBS program and is
no longer with the Y.E.S Program she will be sorely missed, but she did update the database before leaving and that
was huge undertaking her part. Tentatively city municipal jobs will be cut approximately $20,000. This will make
it so only approximately 85 kids will be able to be helped in 2011. The Y.E.S. Program is partnered with the Life
Skills Class at IHS and this was a great success. The program will be partnering with Youth Council to do
Leadership Workshops again. Currently there are advocacy tables set up at GIAC, Cass Park and here at the IYB.
People are encouraged to talk with the legislatures and write letters regarding the cuts of municipal youth services.
Any further questions regarding these tentative cuts should be directed to Suki.

Jen Handy announced that the Youth Leader Training Series will be starting soon, October 20th. The City Website
will be hopefully up and running by December, 2010 and Jen has been working on a Board Web Page.
Unfinished Business:
The BBBS Monitoring session is scheduled for Friday, October 15 and Bill Murphy will be doing this and the report
will be at next month’s meeting.
Board Recruitment follow-up: Jen Handy announced that the deadline for the recruitment article in the Danby Area
News had passed but it will be in the next issue. We need to follow up at next month’s meeting with Allen and Jen
Mainville regarding their follow up with John Raimon at LACS and with Sara at New Roots. Jen advised that there
will be recruitment information in the Happenings flyer and the Class of 2012 will be having a powerpoint slide on
volunteering/board recruitment that professors will be presenting in their classes. Edgar Galvis, Vista Worker, who
is currently working on the volunteering at the IYB will be following up with the Class of 2012. Youth Council had
40 applicants for 7 positions available and once these 7 positions have been decided upon we can review the other
applicants for possible recruitment of board members.
Bylaws & Duties: Sections 5 and 6 were again reviewed and were tabled for the next meeting. Jody will type up
the revised By-Laws and have them emailed to Chris with the changes that have already been voted upon. Chris
will send out an email with the By-Laws before the next meeting.
New Business:
Jody presented an award that was given to the City of Ithaca and IYB Advisory Board from the Tompkins County
Youth Services. This award is currently on display in the Atrium. There was a donation received from the Class of
2011 and Class of 2010 and it was put into the ECHO Fund, the thank you letter was passed around to the Board.
Jen briefly discussed the past board member, Valerie Weber’s Victoria Project and she will email members the link
and video for them to take a look at their convenience.
