Bill talked about department presentations that were done in the past and that they were
discontinued due to the amount of time needed by staff to prepare. At last months meeting it was
suggested that it would be helpful to have staff do presentations for the board.
Talyse shared her proposal for a Miss Teen Ithaca event. The event would serve 30-50 teens ages
16 – 19 and would be free. Awards include scholarships for $2,000, $1,500 and $1,000 for the
first three winners. The event provides other mentoring opportunities for the young ladies the
day of the actual competition. She has met with various community leaders and there is interest
and excitement about the program. YB, GIAC and Southside staff plan to meet to discuss how
best to be involved and will be in touch with Talyse.
Agenda Item #1:
Liz and George gave updates about meetings and initiatives on West Hill. George reported that
school board members were going to continue to discuss where they might put a basketball court
or playground. Liz reported that there have been Community Café’s at West Hill and Cedar
Creek with one planned at Chestnut Hill in the near future. The Community Café’s are going
well and people are getting involved. They hope to host a block party being planned for the end
of June.
Agenda Item #2:
Check in about monitoring of programs. Board members gave a quick review of the monitoring
process for YB programs for new and potential members of the board. Updates were given by
Bill and Shannon about plans to complete their programs and report out at the June meeting. Liz
suggested reviewing the forms and process in the fall for new members and to help each other
learn about each member implements the monitoring process. Members agreed this would be
helpful.
Board of Public Works Update:

Wednesdays, Sundays and 1st Fridays of the month. Leadership Tompkins will present a
