Hallett-Harris and Joanie Groome Guests: Talyse LaDora Hampton, Caitlin Moss and Kristi Raymond --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Meeting called to order by Shannon Terry at 6:09 p.m. Review and approval of Minutes: The Minutes from March 12, 2013 were approved unanimously – Shannon Terry made the motion and Eric Nichols 2nd the motion, all were in favor. Guests Joanie Groome, Kristi Raymond and Caitlin Moss were introduced and each board member introduced themselves. Jody will email Caitlin Moss the applications for joining the board. Announcements: Liz advised that the Marathon Mile Challenge is well underway and we have approximately 170 kids currently registered and this goes 12 ½ weeks will the final mile being done at the Ithaca Festival. The Ithaca Festival Mile will kick off the parade and is on Wednesday, May 29th. RSS will also be walking in the parade again this year and Joanie invited everyone to join in with them, bring an instrument and come play along. Patrick announced that the annual Community Service Day is on Saturday, May 27th starting at 9:00 a.m. and they will be meeting at Stewart Park and doing some clean up around the park as well as a mulching project for the grounds around the IYB that same day. George McGonigal stated he would be willing to help with that project and will contact Jen in advance. The College Discovery Board will be having their main fundraising event at Corks N More on May 9th from 5-7:00 p.m. If you would like more information please contact Linda Cimakasky-Barr. Building projects continued to be addressed. Allen’s been working on sprinkler project. There was a short discussion regarding the presentations of the Supervisor/Coordinators of the different programs of the IYB. Liz will speak with the supervisors/coordinators at the May meeting regarding what month would be good for them to come in and give a presentation of their program for approximately 20 minutes. There were some members that had asked about recreation coming in and talking regarding the summer camps. Staff Reports/Updates: C:\Users\JHarris\Documents\IYB Advisory Board\2013\IYB Advisory Board Minutes 040913.doc Liz advised that YES, RSS and BBBS programs are currently working on their proposals for funding from the County. Big Brother Big Sister has hired a new roster person, her name is Brittanie Earl and she will be starting here on 4/22/13. Liz updated everyone on the minimum wage increase and that will be done in three year increments as follows: 2014 - $8.00; 2015 - $8.75 and 2016 - $9.00. The small pavilion is anticipated to be opened in May and we currently have reservations starting May 15th. Ray Benjamin spoke with Liz and said it is currently being finished up. Friends of Stewart Park will be holding a Stewart Park Spray-Playground Design Workshop here at the IYB in the Green Room this Saturday, April 13th at 10:00 a.m. Talyse LaDora Hampton had turned in her application for an at-large membership and the board took a vote, and it was approved unanimously – Shannon Terry made the motion and Chris Milner 2nd the motion, all were in favor. Agenda Item #1: George McGonigal spoke regarding his recent meeting with school board members, City Councilwoman, Cynthia Brock and a representative of LACS regarding West Hill and there are no areas for kids to play, no playgrounds, basketball courts, etc., there has been recent violence in the area as well. There was some idea of the IYB, GIAC, etc., doing programming there and using their facilities, they have a brand new gymnasium and classrooms. Liz advised that she will speak with the supervisors and coordinators regarding this at the May meeting. Bill Murphy will attempt to contact the management of West Village regarding ownership and report back at the next meeting. Agenda Item #2: The Master Schedule of Monitoring/Shadowing was reviewed and discussed again and it sounds like all programs have been covered by a board member and they will be reporting back to the board. Stephen was excused from this meeting and will need to follow up with him regarding Big Brother Big Sister. Shannon met with Kim Olsen, Outings Program and she will give a report in June, Bill has two up coming dates to shadow CDP and will monitor PSMP in September. Chris Milner has met with Suki of the YES Program and will report on this soon and Eric is meeting with Jen, Youth Council in May and George shadowed a program with RSS and gave his report and handed out his typed up report of the program he shadowed which was the Boys Club and they went the CU climbing wall and George was very impressed with the staff and the amount of fun and excitement of the boys in this program. Agenda Item #3: The Board Handbook is officially done and Jen gave Jody the master copy and one hard copy to Bill Murphy, she made 8 cds with the electronic version of the entire manual and asked that folks upload it on their computers and return the cds for other members. Any updates will be sent electronically and up to members to update their versions. Board of Public Works Update: Mark Darling gave a report from Department of Public Works. He advised that Friends of Stewart Park applied for a grant for renovation of the large pavilion. There will be some road work on WestHill by DPW installing bump- ups for easier crossing on Floral Ave/Hector Streets, a grant has been submitted to include a foot bridge by Cecil Malone Drive. We have not heard yet if we will receive the grant. Mark stated that he will see what property the City owns in West Village and report back on this. There will be an extension of the Black Diamond Trail in 2014 with a connection to current trail to Buttermilk and Taughannock. A permit was issued to the Food Truck Association for Thompson Park for Wednesdays and Sunday and they are currently talking with Jim at Cass Park and hoping to get a proposal going for Cass Park. There was more discussion about working in conjunction with IYB/YES Program and the Food Truck Association as a possible avenue of revenue. 7:15 p.m. ADJOURNMENT
