folks could go out to honor Corporal Bordoni’s funeral procession.
Linda Grace Kobas, the Secretary of the Friends of the IYB gave a short background of the making of the Friends of
the IYB. Friends is a 501( c)(3) entity and are able to apply for grants and funding on behalf of the Youth Bureau.
She contributed a lot of its success today to Allen Green. 2011 was the first full year with two successful
fundraisers. They were able to raise approximately $5200 and of that $5000 was given to the IYB. They have
cosponsored several events, Bowl for Kids Sake, Corks N’ More event and the Sweet Tooth Soirée and have tabled
at many other events. They have a wonderful website located at: www.friendsIYB.org and encourage folks to also
check them out on Facebook and Twitter. They will be the cosponsor again for 2012 the Corks N More event on
April 24th from 5-7:00 p.m., they will be having an online auction from 5/24-6/6, they will be co-sponsoring Bowl
for Kids Sake and participating in the Alternative Gift Fair. They are always looking for opportunities to go speak at
other events/meetings and believe their awareness is rising.
Review and approval of Minutes:
The Minutes from the March 13, 2012 were approved unanimously – Shannon Terry made the motion and Chris
Milner 2nd the motion. The Minutes from the February 14, 2012 are not yet finished and hopefully will be reviewed
at next month’s meeting.
Allen spoke regarding the Recreation Partnership Contract that was emailed with the Agenda and Minutes and
explained briefly that this contract is up at the end of 2012 and, once approved, it would extend for another 5 years.
We have now started using differential fees (City of Ithaca fees and Recreation Partnership Fees).
Allen also talked about a recent meeting in which they were discussing Stewart Park Fields/Special Events/ Cass
Park Fields. There are more and more special events in Stewart Park which take up the entire park. There is talk of
possibly implementing fees for parking, exclusive use permits with resident discounts for city residents for special

events and talk of field rentals in Stewart Park. Bill Murphy asked about the “conditions” of the original deeding of
the property to the city. There is a possibility of hiring a person to oversee these special events and parking also.
The Board was asked for their opinions and to think these possibilities over and any questions or input can be given
to Allen.
Allen did a quick update regarding the Skate Park Project – there was an open house on March 27th at the
Sciencenter and Grind Line was there and gave a PowerPoint presentation of different parks that they have done all
over the US. Currently, there has been approximately $160,000 raised by the skaters and the City had approved the
2008 capitol project for $100,000.00. The first phase of this is going forward. It is believed that the current skate
park will be torn down to start the new work.
Allen spoke briefly regarding the budget update stating that there was a small restoration of funds but this is still a
27% cut for youth services, these adjustments will have to be done mid-year.
There are several upcoming events for the IYB:
April 14th Sampling Ithaca Event
April 24th Corks N’ More Event
April 29th Kickball Tournament
May 12th TreeFest
Ithaca Festival Mile to kick off the start of the Ithaca Fest.
Shannon passed around letters that Chris and she received from Barbara Lifton and Tom O’Mara in response to their
advocacy letter
Chris spoke regarding the 2012 Monitoring schedule. PSMP and Youth Council are the most important and these
need to be set up as soon as possible. Bill Murphy will continue to contact Eloise and Allen will also check with
Karen regarding the monitoring and Chris Milner will monitor Youth Council in Sept/Oct. Chris will be emailing
folks the current paperwork we have for the newest Board Members regarding the procedure for monitoring these
programs. Jody will get a list of the Programs and times that are better for each program leader and report back to
the board at next month’s meeting. Bill Murphy volunteered to come early to the next meeting to set up the names
of the programs on the white board.
George McGonigal suggested that the IYB do something to honor Chris Bordoni and the fact that he was an avid
soccer player/enthusiast. He suggested naming of a soccer program or something along those lines. Allen
suggested that we do some research to see if he was a participant in our programs and will follow up with this at
next month’s meeting.
Lauren Latella from CU Class of 2012 stated that the IYB has been selected to receive the fundraising they will be
doing during Sr. Week at Cornell. There was some discussion regarding these events and that the IYB does not
endorse or promote in any way with alcohol or tobacco, there was a suggestion made that the Friends of the IYB
could assist with this fundraising. Any monies raised by the Class of 2012 will be donated to the ECHO Fund for
summer camp scholarships and the YES Program.
