Hip Hop Dance Competition – Held at Ithaca High school on Friday, April 9, 2010. There were quite a large
number of people, approximately 500 people. They raised around $1,000, after costs. Some of the prizes that were
given to teams were donated by local businesses. Most teams were from Ithaca and one team from Syracuse.
3-on-3 Basketball Tournament – Held at Newman Arena on Saturday, April 10, 2010 as a fundraiser for College
Discovery Program. Raffle tickets were also sold and approximately $1,000 was raised.
Bowl 4 Kids Sake – April 24-25 at Helen Newman Bowling Center -
The Sweet Tooth Soirée – The Soirée will be on the April 24th. The Cornell Panhellenic Association is hosting it, a
black tie optional event and the 2010 planning committee is hosting the event to benefit the Ithaca Youth Council.
Jen passed around invitations, ticket information and flyers. Board Members are encouraged to attend and spread the
word. She is hoping that this event will raise a large percentage on their fundraising goal so that the group can focus
their efforts on other issues and projects. They will also be having a silent auction.
The City recently received a grant and the whole grant was initiated by an employee suggestion box idea that came
from Suki Tabor, the Coordinator of Youth Employment Services, Allen was the consultant on this idea. It started
with a proposal to have solar hot water heater here. When the Mayor and the folks at city hall got involved they
found out about some Economic Recovery Act funding that is available to municipalities through NYCERTA the
whole thing grew. It started out as solar hot water for IYB and two more sites were added, including Cass Park and
the Streets and Facilities Building and the other items were some staffing funding for energy saving consulting
positing for one year and the other is more energy efficient lighting at one of the parking garages. It will probably
take a little while, probably around 6 months or so.
Currently there are three proposals in front of the state government that would effect summer teen employment
differently. No decisions have been made yet.
