She has two staff members, Johara Malcolm and Jobe Zulu. The program is always in need of mentors and tutors. The mentors must commit to 2 hours a week for one year and tutors must commit to one semester. The staff are in the schools three times a week to see the kids and help with homework etc. They have four family dinners a year and the parents commit to attend these dinners at the beginning of the program, when their children are accepted. The CDP Program has an Advisory Board that meets a couple times a year and has approximately 13 members and they do one fundraiser a year for the program. The CDP Advisory Board is also seeking Board Members, if you know of anyone please let Linda know. You can find out more information about the program by visiting their website: www.collegediscoverprogramithaca.com or by going to their Facebook page. The CDP Program is having a fundraiser this Friday, March 14th at Moe’s, it’s a $10 all you can eat, and $7 of the money will go directly to CDP. Fall Creek and BJM schools are also participating in this also. Liz checked in with Karen regarding the Cooperative Extension mentoring program and stated that there is not an overflow of mentors that could utilize and this is not a duplication of services; the benefit is that there are so many kids to serve and not enough mentoring and this is done specifically inside of the school.
