Hallett-Harris Guests: Nathalie Pascarella and Talyse LaDora Hampton --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Meeting called to order by Shannon Terry at 6:02 p.m. Review and approval of Minutes: The Minutes from February 12, 2013 were approved unanimously – Shannon Terry made the motion and Chris Milner 2nd the motion, all were in favor. Guests Nathalie Pascarella and Talyse LaDora Hampton were introduced and each board member introduced themselves. Both were given information at the Jump on Board event and they both took applications to join the board. Jody will email both of them with more board information as well as the phone and fax number of the IYB. It was announced that Shannon Terry was appointed by the Mayor and her term is to expire on 12/31/2015. Jen announced that the Friends of the IYB are having their 2nd online auction. Last year the auction raised approximately $5200 for scholarship fund. Jen asked that any items board members may want to contribute or that would be asked for should be cleared with her first. Please email her at friendsiyb@gmail.com and she will get back as soon as possible. Friends are asking that items be in by May 1st. Friends of the IYB are currently on Facebook and Twitter if you would like to go there and check them out. Patrick has written a rough draft of a recruitment letter to go to Ithaca High School students and it was for both the IYB Advisory Board as well as the Community Police Board. Board Members were asked to review it and if there are any changes/suggestions, etc., they must be in by Friday, March 15th so that this letter can get out as soon as possible. There was a suggestion made that maybe this letter be given out to program coordinators/supervisors for the program participants. Jody will forward a copy of the finalized letter to all board members. Shannon discussed the Jump on Board Event that Tompkins Connect hosted and it was a great success. Chris, Shannon, Jen and Eric attend the event. It was asked that next year more handouts be available, they had 30 on hand and all were given out. It was also suggested that next year a representative from Friends also be there too. The Board Handbook will be sent electronically by April 1st and we will have one hard copy at the meeting that Jody will be in charge of. George has asked for a hard copy of the manual as well. C:\Documents and Settings\markv\Desktop\3-2013 Minutes.doc The Master Schedule of Monitoring/Shadowing was reviewed and discussed again. All programs have been covered by a board member and they will be reporting back to the board. This will be put on next month’s Agenda. Liz talked about the first showing of the three part documentary series, Race: The Power of An Illusion, which the first part was shown at the YB and the other two parts will also be shown here. There are copies of this available at the library and there will be showings offered throughout the City. Liz will forward information to the board members regarding these showings. She also announced that the 1st mile of the Marathon Miles event was held on Sunday and approximately 80 people were there. This program is 12 weeks long and at the end of the program participants will have run 26.2 miles. The Ithaca Festival Mile Program was also opened up and is ready for sign ups. Liz also advised that staff are looking at the numbers regarding the minimum wage increase. The IYB Spring Brochure is out and registrations have begun for spring programs. Big Brother Big Sister Program had its annual fundraiser, Bowl of Kids sake which was a 2-day event. The 4th annual Kickball Tournament will be held on 4/28 and Jody will email information regarding this scholarship fundraiser. The YMCA in honor of its 25th anniversary is holding a triathlon and we are putting together a team. Chris advised that HCU Radio does a Community Minute and he suggested that we do a recruitment blurb on there. He will talk to them to reserve a spot for us and Shannon will draft something up. Liz suggested Shannon look at the You Tube video that past Vista Worker Michelle Bilock did to get ideas. There is no news yet regarding the change of the definition of a municipality. There has been some discussion about the flow of funding through Counties, but language has been added that any comprehensive plans should include current city, town or village youth bureaus. We are still waiting for more information from the association. Liz will keep folks updated as she receives information. The city has adopted a new budget process, council members to meet with each department head to get a better idea of each department. The guidelines from the Mayor will be made available in June, the 1st draft is due to the Mayor on August 1st and in September it gets presented to Common Council and then it will get final approval by Common Council in November at the meeting. Common Council is now asking that summary sheets be provided from each department. The City has adopted 4 themes and these themes will be sent out to the board members. Mark Darling gave a report from Department of Public Works. They are working on finishing the small pavilion at Stewart Park and it should be ready by rental time. There is a grant that is being worked on for renovation of the large pavilion. Liz advised that there is also some talks going on about renovation of the playground too, Rick Manning has asked to hold some meetings regarding this. Currently they are working on permit for the Food Truck Association and there are some talks about working in conjunction with IYB/YES Program/Cass in this regard. 7:09 p.m. ADJOURNMENT
