Hallett-Harris --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Meeting called to order by Chris Milner at 6:02 p.m. Review and approval of Minutes: The Minutes from December 11, 2012 were approved unanimously –Bill Murphy made the motion and George Mc Gonigal 2nd the motion, all were in favor. Liz Vance discussed Allen Green’s upcoming retirement party at Lot 10 on January 17, 2013. She also did a follow up regarding the sprinkler system and that Allen is currently handling this, as he is working part-time. The sprinkler system did not pass the last inspection because of wrong pipe sizing. Liz and Allen met with the Mayor today (1/8/13) regarding the sprinkler system and when the estimates come in for the replacement this may have to be a capitol project, depending on the amount. Currently the recreation department is planning spring and summer programs. Jim and TJ are currently working on getting a new Zamboni and there were some questions regarding this and Liz will talk with Jim and update at the next meeting. The 2013 Monitoring Schedule was discussed and Jody will email all Board Members the forms we have for monitoring/shadowing programs here at the IYB. Jody will also email the Supervisor/Coordinators on what is the best time for them to have monitoring/shadowing done for their program/department and she will report at next month’s meeting on this. The following members have volunteered to monitor/shadow the following: Bill Murphy: College Discovery Program Computer All Stars Paul Schreurs Memorial Program Chris Milner Y.E.S. Program George Mc Gonigal: RSS Program Eric Nichols: Youth Council C:\Documents and Settings\markv\Desktop\IYB Advisory Board Minutes 010813.doc The following programs do not yet have any volunteers set up for monitoring/shadowing and need to be set up at next months meeting: Big Brother Big Sister: Recreation Department: Annie Wojdyla Joey Steinhagen Mike Blakely-Armitage Outing: There was some discussion regarding the YES Program and board members would like to have Suki Tabor come to the next meeting to give a presentation/answer some questions. Bill had asked what the age range is for YES kids. Chris Milner asked about any suggestions from the IYB staff for any pilot projects. Liz stated that there was some talk of a a youth work training workshop/intern. There are two new hotels currently either being built or will be built, which means a lot of employment opportunities. Liz and Suki had some discussion regarding this. There was some discussion that there was a CDL licensing project a few years ago and it was very successful. There was a suggestion that someone should speak with the corporation and see what they have as far as youth development. Liz stated that currently Mike Blakely-Armitage is revamping the how Stewart Park Day Camp runs and this will save the IYB a lot of money in hiring staff. Eric Nichols suggested using volunteers at the camps to possibly cut down on money. The board would like to have this brought up again at next month’s meeting. Bill Murphy stated that maybe some kind of introduction of youth into industries such as the health field, electrician or plumbing fields. Recruitment was put on the table for next month’s meeting since Jen and Shannon were out. Mark Darling gave an update from the Board of DPW that there were a couple of grant applications one from the Friends of Stewart Park for fixing the large pavilion as well as fixing up the maintenance building to turn into a Motion Picture History Center. The Cascadilla Boat Club also received a grant to start working on the old boat house at Stewart Park to make it accessible. Currently the 2nd floor has been made inaccessible. Steve Smith gave use some news from Common Council. Currently they are putting together committees for the replacement of the Police Chief, Superintendent of Public Works and Director of the IYB. There already is a committee put together for the Police Chief as this has taken priority over the other two positions. There needs to be 3 persons from Common Council on the committee as well as 3 persons from boards and there can be non-voting members as well. Steve will do more checking in on the process, specifically for the Director of the IYB and will report back on this. 6:45 p.m. ADJOURNMENT
