Revision of Minimum Qualifications: Transportation Supervisor
The Commission reviewed and discussed a request from the Ithaca City School District to
revise the minimum qualifications for Transportation Supervisor by eliminating the option
of allowing individuals without transportation-related experience to qualify for the position.
Commissioner Richardson made a motion to revise the minimum qualifications to read as
follows:
“MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and
five years of experience in one or more components of a large scale transportation
system (e.g., operations, scheduling, dispatching, driving, automotive repairs or
maintenance, etc.), two years of which must have been in a supervisory position.”

Request to Expand Residency Requirement – Electrical Inspector
The Commission reviewed and discussed a request from Building Commissioner Phyllis
Radke to expand the residency requirement for the current Electrical Inspector vacancy to
include all of New York State. The recruitment pool of licensed electricians with inspection
experience or certifications who reside within Tompkins County is very limited. The
special requirements allow for the acceptance of reciprocal electrician licenses from other
NYS municipalities, and a greater pool of applicants will be available if the residency
requirement is expanded statewide. After discussion, Commissioner Richardson made a
motion to expand the residency requirement for the Electrical Inspector position to include
all of New York State, through the completion of the next exam process. Seconded by
Commissioner Thompson. Motion carried 3-0.
