Staff and Program Updates:
The IYB is looking into a new recreation software system; there are some difficulties with this as
the software has to be able to generate reports and statistical data that we have to produce. The
current system was bought in 2006 and the current system is no longer supported by the vendor.
Jim is beginning to look into the rink design capital project.
Liz advised that she and Jody have looked into the info on the local group of 40's professionals
that are looking to join the board and she will forward out the links Jody found to the Board to
see if they know of anyone or can get some new members. There was a discussion regarding
getting a liaison from Southside and Liz will contact the Director, Kenneth. The Board also
discussed getting together with GIAC , maybe twice a year and see how we can assist one
another with youth /programs. Eric and George will talk with Seth and Cynthia to see if there is
any interest in getting together. Joanie Spielholtz use to be the liaison between both boards and
this was a great way to keep the board in touch with one another.
Liz advised that the MLK Breakfast is this Saturday at GIAC at 9:00 a.m.
Liz introduced Marsha Acerra the new Recreation Program Assistant, she instructs the art classes
here at the IYB and is now a Roster Employee, as of January 1 st! She also advised that
programs are up and running and they are currently working on the Spring I- Playbook. Eric
asked where we have the book done and it is done through West Hill Graphics. Mark stated that
we may want to check in with Ithaca College Print Shop for pricing and speak with Wayne
French. There will be some new classes added for Spring as well as the usual classes, such as:
Parent /Child Yoga, Art Spot, Parent /Child Tennis, Acting on Camera, Life Guarding Class,
Theatre Buffet Play Creations, as well as lacrosse, baseball and softball.
Big Brother Big Sister has announced the Bowl of Kids Sake and it is scheduled for March.
Please check the Friends of the IYB Facebook page for announcements and highlights for the
IYB, as well as Twitter and the Recreation Facebook page too.
Eric announced that George McGonigal is now our Common Council Liaison and
congratulations to George!! George advised that he has only attended one meeting so far and
will have more to report at next month's meeting.
Mark Darling stated that the new Superintendent of Public Works, Michael Thorne has started
his first week, and was busy with the flooding. The Food Truck vendors have been approved
and will be working on a lottery system for where they will be located, they were well received
by parks. There was talk about YES Program working with food trucks possibly for hiring of
teens. Liz advised that anyone interested in this should contact Suki Tabor. There was some
questions regarding hiring teens for snow removal, raking, etc., they were advised to call Penny
Romantic or Mike Smith with the YES Program and they would be able to assist them.
