HomeMy WebLinkAboutMN-CPB-2013-12-18CITY OF ITHACA COMMUNITY POLICE BOARD MINUTES Regular Meeting 3:30 p.m. December 18, 2013 Present: Commissioners (5) Kane, Rogers, DaGrossa, LaPadula, Wright, OTHERS PRESENT: Former Commissioner Levine Chief Barber Information Management Specialist Day EXCUSED: Council Liason - Kerslick Commissioner Brower CALL TO ORDER 3:30 p.m. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: By Commissioner LaPadula; Seconded by Commissioner Rogers RESOLVED, that the minutes of the November 20, 2013 Community Police Board meeting be approved as published. Carried Unanimously Commissioner Kane announced that Commissioner Levine resigned but would like to continue helping the Community Police Board with the written procedural guidelines and the website Guidelines & Standards. She further reported that Commissioner Baker has resigned and noted that he enjoyed his time serving on the Community Police Board. REPORT FROM THE POLICE DEPARTMENT Chief Barber reported that all of the Common Council Members will be sworn in at the next Common Council Meeting on December 31, 2013 at 12:00 pm. If any Commissioners would like to see the swearing in ceremony it is open to the public. The Ithaca Police Department has been very active this past month with burglaries that have been taking place in the City. The Department hired and swore in Officer Cady this month. Interviews for the Police Officer position have been taking place, along with 4 candidates to be interviewed for the Lieutenant position and 4 candidates for the Sergeant's position. The position for Financial Management Assistant has been filled. Chief Barber received two (2) commendation letters that he shared with the Board for Officer Dubrava and Officer Hoffman. Old BUSINESS: Commissioners Rogers, Wright and former Commissioner Levine have been working on guidelines for current and future Commissioners to reference when conducting investigations. Discussion followed regarding having procedural guidelines in notebooks that Commissioners can refer to and "Guidelines & Standards" posted to the Community Police Board webpage for members of the public to access. Resolution: By Commissioner LaPadula: Seconded by Commissioner DaGrossa RESOLVED, That the Community Police Board Procedural Guidelines be approved as submitted.
