CITY OF ITHACA YOUTH COUNCIL PARTICIPATION
Jennifer Handy Youth Council Coordinator, discussed with the Board issues
related to youth members serving on the Community Police Board and what role
they serve. She reported that the start time of the monthly meeting does not
coincide with students schedule; therefore, they would be late for each meeting.
She also noted participation tends to increase if you appoint two youth members.
It is difficult for youth to feel empowered and engaged if they are the only one in
a group of adults. A suggestion was made to honor the youth member who
served on the Community Police Board at their Graduation Ceremony.
Alderperson Kerslick suggested that if the Board wanted the youth membership
increased they should take the issue to the GPA Committee for legislative action.
